First time poster here, thought I'd throw up some pics of my first unfinished odst helmet. Have been researching all the awesome suits people have been making and thought I'd step out of the shadows and join up. I have never done cosplay before but decided to go for it last year and ended up making this disaster helmet. But, I was proud of starting it and am currently working on a full foam suit with 3d printed parts like buckles, bullets etc. My next helmet will also be 3d printer to get a better finish. Plans right now for the armor is to base it off the ranged odst concept art from the Halo encyclopaedia, but HEAVILY damaged. This suit will have gone feet first into hell many, many times. It will also have a plasma pistol and dmr for weapons. Will post some pics later of the unfinished armour as I go through building it. Any tips for foam work would be much appreciated as I'm that noob that I nearly ended up using yoga mats instead of eva foam!

Welcome to the 405th!

I think foam is the best place to start building armor! That helmet looks great for a first build, so if you keep it up I think you'll be able to make some awesome armor! I can't wait to see some of your 3D printed parts as well. Once you get started on finishing 3D printed parts I have some walkthrough tutorials on everything after printing if you'd like a link!

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask and I'll help you out to the best of my ability!

Cool, thanks man. Here are some prints that I've done so far, the emblem will go on my chest piece and the oni symbol on my shoulder piece. Any tips on sanding small prints like this? I thought about using polyurethane and primer spray paints to sort of melt the print lines like I saw on another website. It looked like it worked pretty well on small prints.

Those prints look good! I sand the raw prints down a bit then I use spot putty or body filler, sand, then use sandable filler primer to make it super smooth. I don't really have any experience using the polyurethane method so I can't speak to that. I'll message you a link to the helmet finishing video I made as well as a prop finishing tutorial that goes over the techniques I use so I don't bloat your build thread! Also the foamsmithing on your shoulder piece looks really good, keep it up!
