This is my ODST Sergeant Steel costume everyone! The reason I joined the 405th is not because I can build awesome MJOLNIR armor or wicked props like all of you guys can, I joined because I finally found people who love halo as much as I do. I plan to make halo based videos and make the Canadian reg. proud. HAIL THE GREAT WHITE NORTH! HAIL THE 405TH!

P.S- Im a first time youtuber so it would be great if anyone can give me advice on filming, equipment and even ideas for the ODST video

Welcome to the 405th!

Oh boy... equipment ......

cam gear . something I am rather obsessed with in my spare time. Ive been doing video from my first I mac with DV onwards in the late 90s

Software:
I edit on final cut pro.. I run both OSX for AV and then Winders 7 for every thing else on my mac pro tower,

IF you can get used it ,Redshark lightworks is sweet as it runs on OSX and windows and on linux!!!!!
its priced fairly. AVS4you is OK . lacks good audio options.

If you have a mac . FCP-x is good ! .... its also a fair price for what it does.

Cam gear :
I use a canon XHA1s as my main studio cam ( news ect)
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-XH-A1S-Definition-Professional-Camcorder/dp/B001JQLKRG
Its OLD as it's tape . but IS HD and also was same one used to film the action movie * crank highvoltage*

For Cine ( movie artsy stuff )
I use a DLSR the canon 70D .
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/986391-REG/canon_8469b016_canon_eos_70d_dslr.html

Its got a VERY good auto focus . one of the best out there on a mirrored DLSR...
DLSRs often have poor and slow AF and make poor action cams unless you are pre planning stuff ( well ,like in a movie )
also a DLSR is a sensor and a box...... you can mount so many various optics.... from fish eye to a telescope ( serious I have a teleslcope mount for fun )

Here are a few cams that IF i had to start over again i would take in a pinch.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/749467-REG/Canon_4922B002_XA10_HD_Professional_Camcorder.html
I needed more then 10X zoom .... at the time its twin the XA20 and XA30 with longer zooms were not out yet .....
Its a cool cam that you can remove the handle to look consumer . this is handy at places that might be picky if were to drag in a large cam.

You can get the canon XA10 for under a grand If you go used.
its a few years old.
In the past it was risky to buy used as tape wear can be a huge issue .
now with SD slots ect there is allmost no wear so its not a " big deal " to get a used cam!

This JVC is just out and looks REALLY good ( better then the canon for what its worth ) the 4:2:2 1080p Video up to 60p at 50Mbps is VERY good .
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...hm200_gy_hm220_4kcam_streaming_camcorder.html

Bit rate is a huge factor in video and so is color sample rates.... in simple terms .
1080P at 50 megs is way better then 4K at 25 consumer.,
in post you can allwas compress on export .
422 is Full broadcast !

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1022657-REG/sony_hdrcx900_b_hdr_cx900_full_hd_handycam.html
this Consumer sony has a VERY hot 1 inch sensor . DLSR low light in a handicam . its got a ring for zoom/focus
and has a single mic input for shotgun mic ect .

video is just such a large range....... from 100 bucks to 80 grand for a Cine alta for the newest blockbuster it can be scary .
what ever you get ...... try to get at the least a minijack input for a mic. a external shotgun mic for as little as 50 bucks can make it all sound better.
