Orange Paint?

Hey everyone, how's it going?

I'm looking for a place to get good orange paint, preferably Krylon brand. My usual sources have hundreds of different shades of every other color, even a peach, but no stinking orange. Does anyone know where I might be able to procure some? I've checked Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, and all the local stores and all they have is bright fluorescent orange.

You could try to find it online. I get my spray paint at Ace hardware store, they have a lot of colors.

Personally, I'd suggest an auto parts store. Dunno about Krylon, but I know they have orange. Why Krylon btw? Plastic application?

Store Locator too, if this helps. I know they don't always have it in all the stores though. I had this problem once before when looking for their latex spray paints: http://krylon.com/main/locator.cfm

Krylon's a good choice in my opinion, especially if using it for prop application.

It's a well-known fact that many of the major prop houses use automotive paint for finishing film and TV props. Considering what some of those props are subjected to on set (dropped, thrown, crushed), it's more durable.

Being an automotive paint, it's designed to be far more durable than run-of-the-mill paints. It'll take quite a beating, and lasts forever.

Of course, up here in Canada there isn't really a readily available supply of Krylon brand paints, so I have to resort to using Dupli-color brand paints. Also very good to use, though.

If you don't mind my asking, just what is it you need orange paint for? Are you painting your MJOLNIR armour (or part of it) that colour? o_O

Thanks for all the ideas.

I've been doing Xbox and 360 case mods for years so the Krylon is just a personal preference. And yep, it's for the main part of my MKVI/Hayabusa/Scout armor. The main body is orange, the details a dark blue.

Our local Walmart did have Duplicolor "Chevy Orange", but it had more red in it than I would like.

Ah, I see... "main body is orange, the details a dark blue." That should make for a real stand-out suit of armour. Should look pretty kewl...

Where I live is a hell backwater town in Australia and they have nothing in terms of spray paints

Can anyone suggest other ways of painting it?

I have had someone say get the paint made custom color and then buy a air spray thing to mimic the spray can effect is that viable? any other ways?

Krylon is just one of the better brands,
we all know, quality is pretty important on things like that.

Yeah it sounds like you have exhausted most of your resources.
If you can't or don't want to get it online,
i suggest asking somewhere to special order it. They usually do it, and for no charge.
ACE Hardware especially is great about ordering things with no obligation.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I managed to find it at a not-so-local Walmart. It's a bit darker than I'd like but it'll do.

Any time I've needed a particular color for an Xbox, I'd use Rustoleum. It's like $3 a quart, and you can mix your own from their main colors. Thin it out with mineral spirits so that it's the consistency of water, then spray it like an automotive paint. Works great.

most Walmarts have a paint-mixing area next to hardware. just have someone there mix you the color you want

Patalac is right, most paint shops will mix whatever you like and put it in a can for you, it only cost a dollar or so more than a pre mixed colour. Plus you get to do cool stuff like add pearl powder or metal flake.

Walmart only mixes exterior/interior paints. Not metalics.
You'll have to go to a Sherwin Williams type store for that. I used a base/clear (ford) green for my suit.

try kmart, it seems that they carry more specialty items then wal-marts overall selection, they have paints that you can mix with other types to get striking metallic colors like gold, bronze, copper, silver, and even metallic base colors............ even orange...
