There’s a TL;DR at the end. Or skip to the boldfaced bits for where I’m looking for help. I need to make armor for my dog and reinforce and paint armor for myself.

Yes, you read that right. At Wasabicon 2018 I had the pleasure of meeting Barry Kiker and Kevin, who were there representing the Southern Regiment. I mentioned that my goal is to fabricate/develop a set of armor for myself and for my dog. I will eventually be dressed as Tucker from Red vs Blue while Caboose (Yes, that’s who he is named after.) will be in a set of doggy armor in Caboose’s blue with the distinctive helmet (Black visor)
The goal is to modify a set of lightweight armor, possibly from a kid’s Halloween costume, to fit on my black lab’s harness. For myself, I have purchased the HALO3 “Supreme Edition” Master Chief armor shown here: Halo Master Chief Costume, Adult Standard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DNK198/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_lsq0BbDMD1CKZ
My plan is in several parts. First off, the undersuit for the armor is apparently designed and fitted to a baboon, a professional basketball player, or some strang hybrid of both. Some dude in the comments said he was 5’6” and 140lbs and the suit fit him perfectly. I can’t decide if I want to shake his hand or punch him in his windsock, I’m 5’5” and 156lbs and this thing fits me like a glove— a glove that is twelve sizes too large. So, I’m going to have to take it to a seamstress to have it fitted. While there, I intend to have her put in a fly, because I like to pee, and not on myself.
Second, the interior of the helmet could serve dual duty as a ballroom for talented circusfolk. I have an old motorcycle helmet that I think I’m going to rip the stuffing out of and use to resize the helmet, because the baboon basketball player hybrid also has one big ol’ nugget.
Third, I need to reinforce the plastic of which the armor is constructed. For this I am thinking a fiberglass spray on the interior. However, I have absolutely zero experience with fiberglass, so this is the step I am seeking help with first.
Following a successful fiberglassing or other reinforcement method, I next need to paint the armor to match Tucker’s aqua and add detailing. I have experience painting miniatures, so I think some of the techniques will apply, such as dry brushing, but I definitely need help with this step as well.
