recon armor build... WIP

started planning and building a suit i can hopefully complete by Halloween. anyway, critiques are definitely welcome and encouraged.

as the title suggests, started with a recon helmet. found files here and thanks to HaloGoddess's epic uber tutorial, i'm pretty sure i got the scaling down. anyway, pics or it didnt happen

this is what i'm hoping for, might have to search for more files, mainly different shoulder/forearm/knee permutations.

Halloween is pretty easy task, if you wanted it by July 31st you'd be pushing it, but it really depends on your available Hobby Time: Aka- Non sleep, non work, non school related time to devote into this.

Personally, killing all TV, gaming (Xbox360 and PC and all of it) and scheduling sleep accordingly, I've pushed 40 hours a week into hobby time without hindering work/sleep time.

Just remember, get plenty of sleep - it's horrible working on your hobby half-awake, mistakes can be 10x worse to fix and costly in time
Don't sacrifice things like Eating, Drinking (water, etc), bathroom breaks and etc for Hobby Time, this isn't good for your health.
Don't cut corners to shave off time - the results won't be as pleasing.
Order in advance. Your pepping now - but what about when that's done? Do you have hardeners? Lights? Paintbrushes/tools? or how about visor(s)? what about the undersuit?
Keep on these tasks and you'll be fine - when you have downtime from one task - you might be able to fit another in, better using time managment. If things are located in China (say off ebay, helmet visors and stuff) give them a month to ship to you, if not longer, because sometimes it takes that long. Hate to see "everything but visor" complete due to a shipping error on Halloween.

You should have plenty of time considering how 'basic' the shapes of the armor are, not a lot of intricate details, but that's only if you have ALL the pep files and have properly sized them!

Remember to test size the new parts, I have an "odd proportioned body" so literally my scale sizing for my arms doesn't fit for my legs (even though by measurement sake, it should) my "size ratio" changes from body part to body part. So measure yourself (or have another measure you for say inseems and stuff like that , which you 'cant' do) make basic low-poly scale tester parts, cut them where they will be cut for straps - add masking tape - and try it on. Remember "too big" might be "Just right" because of padding, just use your best judgement.

That's pretty clean pepping Gutrot! Though the visor looks a tad slanted (that may just be the image though).

I'm going for the halloween deadline as well, and trust me when I say you're gonna wanna be going fast. But then again I'm pretty lazy

thanks for the insight Kissker! i like to assume that i have a pretty good handle on my time management for the project, and working second shift means that i can concentrate far better when working as i don't get home until almost midnight. i've been dabbling in this method for a while now, just never created anything for myself really, so all of the thinking and planning that is going into this i've had around for a little bit.

and thanks Swift! i might have gone a little glue happy at a few points when building it, but the skewed visor i believe is due to the angle that the pics were taken at.

only really odd thing i think i'm running into is the test fitting of some of these like the forearm, where it's tight getting it over the back of my arm, but slightly loose on my wrist. this will all be taken into consideration when i get to the next step of resining the pieces and getting everything else sized and ready for sanding/paint. still deciding on a theme, but 1 step at a time.
