I agree. There are shots of footage on that monitor that would require actually editing map files, namely the Pelican diagram.

They really are going to out do themselves someday!

Spoiler Discussion below

Indeed, they would have also had to rig the animation on the guys face for talking, also, in the preview.. when the guy falls, the camera gets tilted at something like a 45 degree angle from the ground.. which isn't possible normally.

Dont forget the scene at the begining when there where like 50 troops and stuff..... while some where static, many more than 16 of them where moving, so the animations on those had to be rigged as well.

Well, not necessarily. I've never done something like this before, but they may have just taken a single vantage point camera position and taken two, maybe three videos. Each video would have the same 16 guys, but in different positions. Just layer the videos on top of each other, edit as needed, and voila! IDK if it's possible, but it's an idea.

As for the 45 Degree cams, they could have just rotated the entire video. I've seen similar methods used in other bits of machinima here and there.

It might work, the camera was in one position the entire time.. but i think if they did actually do that, there would have not been as many static troops as there where...

As for the second thing, the camera actively turned to the angle, its not like it was level, then tilted all the sudden.. when you tilt it, you would get empty parts on the edges, so to correct that, you would have to zoom in at the same time.. or actually actively make the video larger, which would cause a zooming effect, which there wasn't.

Well, they may have had a combo of static and layered shots. Or, since the video wasn't the greatest resolution, what we think are static troops are actually boxes ans such. It could potentially be anything. Hell, maybe it's a sign that XBL will adopt 64 player multiplayer! JK. (Though it'd be cool...)

Again, the rotating camera is easily solved. Rooster Teeth has a history with clipping videos that don't require clipping at all. They usually take a shot and clip off the edges. When the camera rotates, the excess fills in the gaps.

I don't think I explained that to well...

EDIT: Is it just me, or did they call the very first guy Dr. Freeman?

Okay, for the second part, i agree, but for the first part, I am a sponsor there, and they have the a high res version available, they where all Spartans.

Man, I wanted to be a sponsor...

So their all SPARTAN models? Man. I'm reviewing the video and the camera WAS moving when they had all those players. Somehow, they managed to fit in well over 30 players.

How'd they do it?

Like i said.. Bungie probably helped. Aso, you know you make the video go full screen right?

 Forgot about it. In my defense, us non-sponsor videos resolution lacks, even in the expanded view. And still getting you used to the re-design (poor excuse :p)

Well, I wouldn't put it pas BUNGiE to help Rooster Teeth. They actually added the "lower weapon" on the D pad specifically for them!

i hope this doesn't mean they will be filming in Halo 2 again

Well, Season three had a pretty fair chunk of filming done in Halo one...

this isnt the first time that bungie has somehow helped, it was rumored that the red vs blue gang got some mod tools for halo 2 and halo 3 so they could specifically do special stuff, like pull in animations that were used for marines in campaign and add them to the player model in multiplayer, or like in Tex's mini series the giant door in Containment opens up and Wyoming comes roaring out in a warthog, probably another mod tool, they do have the studio, and connections with bungie to do things in halo 3 that we would never be able to do

actually i got to talk with burnie burns at akon last year and he did tell me that they had gotten special equipment (copies of files and models and mods to do some stuff in halo 2 (akon was last year at beginning of june before halo 3 was out) so it is somewhat true, i dont exactly know if they got some more stuff for halo 3, but it definitely wouldnt surprise me

A modded xbox and a connection to your computer is all you need for that....
They said somewhere i think it was a podcast with hollywood halo that they said they didnt mod.
That or it was one of the commentarys on the dvds..
And all that can be done with the right editing software.
adobe after effects or w/e they use.

i asked specifically if they used a mod xbox, he said no and couldnt really tell me much except that it was a special system, and he continued shortly that only they had that connection with microsoft and bungie to get that special kind of help.

so thats all i know
but i do seriously think bungie gave them more for this new season, maybe a special copies of halo 3 that allow better forge abilities or unlimited restriction maybe (this part is my assumption) so they could have alot of players in that first scene or plain and simple did multiple lay-overs

nope. its all covered in their forums and the many blog posts. BUNGIE totally extended their thanks to Roosterteeth, and invited them into their studios. They even got to do extra voices for the Halo 3 game.
