Well this would probably be one of my first overall posts. Been lurking for awhile, taking in the massive info. First of all this is my forth major costume, I started off life as a Mando Merc, built two of those, then did an Ash Williams(Evil Dead), and then a Harelquin from Assassin's Creed Brother hood.
After the adventure in fabric I'm glad I came back to good old hard armor. First off my concept. Like my merc I'm not one for going with the tried and true design. So I wanted my Marine to be something more then the cowaring thing behind me when I played Halo. I've read the books and came to the concussion ONI gets a "do whatever I want" card, and I wanted one of those. (I made a Emporer for a con a few months back and had my buddy in his vader get me a hotdog.)
Anyways I picked the signal corps, good concept cause I wanted to have the compack from Halo 2. My idea is to be somewhere in the battlefield giving false information to the Covies. Mainly how there was this battle over here by a minefield, away from my squishy body. So I decided to ditch the helmet and go from the Johnson cap, though with the ONI logo, and a military looking headset. Along with this a left gauntlet like thing with a keypad for screwing with signals.
So there is what my paint scheme and humor will look on my armor. I missed the boots and elbows, but you get the overall sense of the armor. While I will note, no agency that deals with secrets will have anyone with their seal in combat, especially since their logo is a bullseye. BUT, I came to the the area of it looks cool. So instead of the UNSC logo like most, I rock my ONI roots.
Now the camo on it is actually a modded design I stole of a model JU-87 I have. It was green and black, but I made my charcoal and blue. Suppose to be urban, but I mainly think it just looks cool. Also to keep a nice look I chose Urban camo, over the desert most use.
And a bigger image for the detail. For my local mercs I'm well know for being a dork, and it shows on my armor. I'm also a bit of a Photoshop, um easy girl you pay money for, so I take my concepts very seriously. Not really I just use it as an excuse for it.
Moving on, as you can see I take the humor of the bullseye, and body parts that normally get ripped out by gaint aliens. The shoulder bells show where to put the arm, stomach plates has all three legs mapped out, and so on.
Now for the actual build. Here is picture of my major chest pieces fiberglassed and awaiting smoothing. I come from a community where we have to be movie accurate so old habits die hard. These, and the stomach plate will be made out of cardstock and fiberglass. Lots of area, easier to hide mistakes.
As for the shoulders, elbows, knees, and boots I plan on making these out of styrene plastic. Its a nice thin, strong plastic that I can shape with a heat gun and get the same shape as the pepakura. Done a few tests with the elbows and they turned out fine. Just bondoing the seems for a clean look. The rest of the images are of the chest and BDUs. Its not the final blue, just a near empty can I used to tell the smoothness.
