Spartan Armor Usable In Airsoft

im trying to make spartan armor that is durable enough to be used in airsoft i.e. wont get shredded by bbs, can withstand stacking up against a wall/doorway etc, working flashlight, and built in radio(i can do the radio easy)

I would suggest using many layers of fiberglass and resin for it! My frind and I were bored a day ago and we unloaded around onehundred bbs from 15 feet on a mkVI ab plate, and it put many holes through the sucker. these were out of 400fps guns though...

You should be more worried about pressure and damage just from moving around. If a BB puts a hole through an arm, you can fix it easily. If you kneel down and flatten the leg, that's a bigger problem.

Also, I should mention the community (not all of us, I personally don't have a problem with it) doesn't really approve of using armour for airsoft/paintball.

Anything you do is at your own risk.

i'd have to agree with mustang

i'm sure if someone were to put enough time into it, it would work, but it's generally ill-advised

if you do, be safe and test and be prepared for failure at first

if you don't fail, you don't learn anything

you might want to just take a sheet of paper, resin bondo all that jazz and see how many layers it would take

but personally, the less you wear in paintball/airsoft, the more fun and more respected you are (again it's opnion)

do what ya feel and just be safe, and if you can't be safe, be carefull!

I haven't been on this forum very long, but I can't say how many times i've seen paintball/airsoft armor mentioned on here, and every time the responses are about the same. The way I see it, if you want to put the work into it and risk messin it up out there on the paitball/airsoft field, then thats your choice. Just be certain to make absolutely sure that the armor can withstand the rigors of what you'll be doing. I'm no expert paintballer myself, but i've paintballed before, and I spent a lot of time rolling/stumbling and even the occasional dive. My advice, reinforce it as much as you can, then go outside in it and jump around and basically go through the movements you'd be going through out on the field. You may look like an idiot out there rolling around in your spartan armor, but itd be less embarrassing than having a crucial armor piece break or come loose in the middle of a match. At least, it would be for me. Set up a piece on the ground and take whatevers gonna be shooting at you and shoot it. If the armor doesn't hold up to repeated shots, re-reinforce it and try again. Basically saying, don't rush it, and if you put enough time and planning into it, not only are you safer, but you're less likely to drastically damage the suit, therefore doubly benifitting from a little extra planning. I admit, being out on the paintball field in a master chief suit would be awesome and would probly help with the intimidation factor, but where I play paintball at, its one hit and your out. If thats the case, armor just makes you a bigger target, slower moving, and you might not feel if you get hit, and sometimes the refs can be hard on ya if they think you're trying to play on after getting hit. But I'd say the overall most important thing would be to make sure the face protection is up to par. A pellet to the arm hurts, but heals. A pellet to the eye doesn't exactly heal up right. Best protect your eyes while they're worth protecting. (plus, if you're gonna paintball, i can tell you from experience that stuff don't taste good.) Sorry for the lengthy post, but I didn't want to leave anything out. Good luck and have fun! Thats what this is all about.

like maverick said.

If you want all that hard work ruined. its your choice (because it will get ruined from bbs and just moving around in a game like that)

The real concern is getting a visor that wont shatter with you ending up getting shards in your eye.

The 405th.com and by extension its members do not encourage people to make safety equipment.... period. Airsoft related threads are allowed, but there is no discussion about homemade safety equipment. I will not assume any liability for for someone injuring themselves due to advice given on this forum. I am sorry if I crimp your style like a stuffy dad......
