So I've decided to make a fiberglass replica of myself to help build on later to ensure as precise a fit as possible. I have the plaster body cast(as shown in the pics below) which came out pretty well but needs a little fine tune prepping before I fiberglass the inside. The question I have is about the actual laying of the cloth. I need to add a separating agent first(in this case a thin layer of vaseline) but afterward I can dip the cloth in the resin and then place it inside as it's usually done or place the cloth down and "paint" the resin on allowing it to soak into the cloth. Does anyone has experience with this specific style? I've seen people use adhesive spray to keep the cloth in place before painting on the resin but with the vaseline already there I don't think spray would have any effect and don't know if it would harm the process.

The resin will end up working as the adhesive. Make sure the layer of Vaseline is evenly distributed :p
There's this video where a dude makes an army of two mask out of clay, then covers it in plaster, then he removes the clay mask from the plaster, then he coats the inside with wax several times, then he proceeds to glass the inside of the plaster mask mold.

Great video; thanks for posting it :) I love Bondo; used loads of it for my first project. I've never tried Rondo but that's something for me to consider in the future. So you think the Vaseline alone would be enough to keep the cloth in place to be painted with resin? After the first layer of cloth is in place I'll use an actual spray for the mat layers.

Thanks Demonkiller77 I'm hoping it makes future steps easier.

Vaseline probably will work, YMMV. Will it hold the cloth in place? No. That's the job of the resin. The resin will work to hold the mat layers just like it would for the cloth. But mat is a little more, difficult. Good luck Bolas! :D
