So im making a Tali costume for my friend for an upcoming con. since i didnt see too many posts about it i thought id document the making of it!
so today i built the pepakura and tommorow im resining. i think it came along pretty good. im thinking about making the omni tool later on. im having some friends help me out with making a voice projection unit and ventilation and lighting for the helmet (im terrible with tech-stuff, the sculpt i can do ^,^**)
im hoping for the visor and omni tool to use some sort plastic that molds with a heat gun, does anyone know what plastic i could use? also a way to color the plastic, other than tints for car lights (im trying to find if theresa better way) but enough with me talking. here are some pictures!!!

I am loving that helmet, this is looking beautiful for only being pepped, Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the build turns out!!! :D

I don't want to derail you here, but I have to disagree with some of the above posts. You certainly have the general shape down, which is an achievement considering that it's a hard model to pep, and you may be able to use it if you are good at sculpting (which would include Bondo work with a Dremel here), but it does look rather bumpy. Did you indent and pre-fold all the folds? Doing so makes the model more edgy-looking, but also makes it more precise and symmetrical and thus easier to work with. Do glue them exactly (!) edge-on-edge, with no holes or anything and try to use as little glue as possible.

Remember that you'll need especially the visor area to be nice and smooth, if you want to use it as a master to form your see-through visor. Otherwise any bump or imperfection will end up on there as well. If you know someone with a vacuformer, this might be a really easy way to make it.

Good pep so far. Any plans for electronics such as a mouth light or voice changer?

yha im having some friends work on the lighting system and voice projector, possibly even a fan unit so there is no death by suffocation....my dad is also offering to help with possibly making the visor being able to hinge outwards so its possible to get some air without having to completly take off the helmet

i did pre fold the peices, and i tryied to be as percies as possible (this was actually my first completeed pep, so i dont think i did half bad) but since alot of the pices were so small i did end up burning myself...alot, i have about 6 opeb burns on my hands and 2 on my legs (i was stupid and decided to work in shorts...) so it was hard to be so exact when i was sometimes letting go of the helmet like a hot potato hahahaha ^,^ hopefully im more immune to the glue next time...
and i know its rough, but i planed from the start to fix it by useing alot of bondo, sculpting is my specialty (AP sculpting course not to brag) hopefully i can redeem alot of the form there ^,^

I love Tali! I think I'm on the verge of being a talimancer...
Either way, I can't wait to see it, and yes it is kind of a rough model. The circular mouth piece I think is going to give you grief. The little hanging down detail too.
Good luck!!!

RESIN TIME!!!!
so i think i put the resin on abit thick, and its abit clumpy, but im gona do a fiberglass resin layer next (except it wont be fiberglass, itll be a thin fabric and resin, becaus fiberglass isnt allowed in my household) hopefully thatll smooth things out abit.

Another person that uses aqua resin! Good stuff for work Like that! especially the thick mix! Now I have absolutely no doubts about how this is gonna work. AR>PR

I have been looking into perspex it has a low soft temp of around 160 degrees it also comes in different color tints.

all right, so im actually out of my homestate now, so im unable to post more steps in my proccess unfortunately, so id just thought id entertain you guys with some small projects i spent about half an our on awile ago. i started to make garrus's eye peice to be worn around as a head dress, thing, as well as a mini garrus sculpture my friend asked me to make. neither of them are very good, but i had fun making them (yes i know neither of them are done being painted, but the bulk of my supplies was left at home)

Please, when posting on the forum, do not necro post (Posting on threads where the last post was 3 months ago or older... this one is over a year old now), and for simple questions please post them in the "HELP! For XXXX" threads at the top of the page, rather than starting a whole new thread for them.

These rules help keep clutter down so the focus on the noob forum is build threads. The Help threads at the top are also there to get you good coverage and fast answers from seasoned veterans, in general there are one or two vets who regularly do Q/A on each of the help threads, and some of them are VERY good at it, but do not browse the noob threads below the stickies.

the work looks great. Keep up the the good work. The only comment i will make is. as far as i have heard. trying to form plastic with a heat gun. Will have issues making the plastic less transparent. keep up the good work though.
