The Best Odst?

I'm new to all of this but I've been soaking up every bit of information to be had on this site for the last few days, I know what I want to do and I have already got the card and glue to get started. My big problem now is where to start. There are so many different variations of variations and different topics on the same subject I'm a little confused as to what is the best out there right now. Below I've compiled a list of what I believe seems to be the best but have I got it right? And am I missing anything?

ODST Helmet - Rundown's model, unfolded by Ral Partha from http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/36971/Halo 3 ODST Rookie Helmet by Rundown Ral Partha.pdo - (Link may stop working eventually)

Torso - Nightshade's model, unfolded by Harding29 from http://www.4shared.com/file/134927986/572db900/ODST_torso.html

Belt - 1ManBattalion's SKG approved smoothed belt from http://www.4shared.com/file/93748508/5a7c778d/CQ_Shoulder_A4.html

Groin Plate - 1ManBattalion's from http://www.4shared.com/file/77625678/40c897ea/ODST_Groin_Plate.html

Hip Plates - 1ManBattalion's from http://www.4shared.com/file/77625737/b5d92548/ODST_Hip_Link_set.html

Shoulder with Sniper Plates - Nightshade's model unfolded by Ral Partha - http://www.4shared.com/get/110437220/7f60025e/ODST_Shoulder__Sniper_Plate_by_Nightshade.html

Accessory Packs and Armour - SKG's unfolded by Ral Partha from the ODST Weta Landfall thread - http://www.elangworthy.com/Ral_Partha_ODST.zip and http://www.elangworthy.com/Ral_Partha_ODST_acc_packs.zip

Leg and Knee - Ruze789 unfolded by Ral Partha again from ODST Weta Landfall thread - http://files.filefront.com/ODST+WETA+Knee+by+Ruze789pdo/;11983261;/fileinfo.html and http://files.filefront.com/ODST+WETA+Legs+with+suppo9pdo/;11983267;/fileinfo.html

Ok I think that covers everything, so am I correct that these are the best files at the moment? And just as important have I missed anything? Now off to find a laser diode driver circuit ;-) (More on that soon)

At first glance it looks good. I'm sorry to say I don't have time to check all the files individually. Do you have the forearm plates? What about the center equipment plates? If you're missing anything, look around This Thread, I'm pretty sure there are versions of almost everything somewhere in that 40 page thread...

You highlight exactly the problem I encountered. There are dozens of threads each dozens of pages long and somewhere in all that can be found the information. As for missing anything I'll go through what I've downloaded and compare it to the picture, I have a feeling I'm missing something but not sure.

On another matter before you print out a Pep, does anyone here optimize the layout? So far looking at the Torso mentioned in my first post I was able to cut that down from 10 to 9 pages and the Helmet from 19 down to 17. Not much saving but every bit counts or is there a good reason not to do this?

Thanks both for your quick replies, MIRAGE might of been off main topic but interesting, Maxim do free samples too :)

No reason not to optimize a pep if you can. As long as you can still cut out the parts afterward, it's a good idea.

Unfortunately, most of the ODST files are very new and currently under constant revision, and since the game's not even out yet, it's difficult to figure out which version is the "best" or most accurate. It's a mess right now, but it will probably calm down soon. Not to mention the FOUR different versions of the armor (Halo 2, Halo 3, Weta, and now H3:ODST), which all have slight (or major) differences. And then there are the custom pieces for each of the H3:ODST characters...

Ok cool, thanks for all the help. I'm starting work already, got the Torso printed (first in paper to make a mock-up, size looks good but want to check) before I commit to the cardstock I have. I'll have to change this to a WIP thread soon!

Awesome, hit me up over PM if you need any help with anything. And remember, everyone likes pictures!

Pictures started, albeit only those from Pepakura of the files I have decided to model for sure. The Helmet is the same but I have changed my mind on Torso and am now going to use Nightshade's instead. While more complicated to assemble than my original choice it has far more detail and is especially more ODST accurate.

Edit - Another change, the helmet this time. Got the most up to date Rundown/Ral Partha one thanks to Flyerfye - http://405th.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21151

Have actually thought about that but to start with "The Rookie" will do. I mainly want to do a large collection of weaponry to go with this and the different shoulders/other pieces to go with them. First up I want the Sniper Rifle but later some CQB weaponry will definately feature and naturally some of the heavy stuff too. My personal preference though has always been with the long shots, love sitting high up and far away taking head shot after head shot. [Evil Grin]

I'm actually glad you compiled this list, it makes my decisions easier and centralises all the ODST parts I like to minimise digging. Putting this in my browser favorites :)

Thanks! Since I first made this list I have already made changes as I discovered a number of newer better parts and I will continue to do so, but in the mean time if this has been of help to just 1 person like yourself then I am ecstatic.

I have also now made a start on my own armour. I'm making each part in paper first to check for size (until I'm confident in my abilities) so here is all the paper printed and chopped up for my ODST Helmet.

Next step is to trim each piece neatly and then start glueing it all together. I've left this scaled as it came in the pdo file as I have quite a large head so lets hope it fits! Have to change the title of this thread to a WIP lol
