That's a great effect. The sanding really makes a difference vs sponging and other techniques for mottling.

you can also use petrol jelly instead of tooth paste. it should remove the need for a scrubbing pad

That's a cool effect. I've heard petrol jelly will work, too. I've also heard mustard works.

Great! thanks for showing us this! I have used the toothpaste method on smaller aircraft models to replicate flak damage and it works well
