Well I stumbled onto this site about a week ago and had to make an attempt at building some of my own stuff, This was actually my 1st attempt and a half, My first attempt was ruined when my basement flooded last weekend and was the time I found out my printer couldn't handle Cardstock so I figured I try a test helmet with regular paper to see how it turned out and whether or not I liked it. Just finished up here a few minutes ago so here's the pics, Messed up in a few places but all in all I'm happy with it, Turned out much better then my first one before the flood.

So Here's the pics

Lemme know what you guys think and any tips for my next build

Omg that's pretty nice! I remember when I tried to make a BR with regular paper... It didn't turn out so well. haha well I think resining will help a lot with the final product! Good luck.

not a bad first try at all man ! the biggest suggestion i could make is this: make the next one out of card stock. the stuff is MUCH more rigid than normal paper. and should hold its shape a bit better. being stuck with just using regular paper myself, i gotta say, its not easy making the friggen thing hold its shape haha.. and for something as intricate as the Mk VI helmet no less =D

really good work for a first try.

:D

I've seen some good printer go for about 30 -45 dollar... you can even find some used printer that simply don't print "fast enough" for the current standard for less than 30$.

I tried to use spray varnish to stiffen a paper piece... and it worked well enough... but cardstock is really the easiest way to go

Great job... keep it up

Well I got done resining the outside of the helmet yesterday but I don't think I added enough hardener cause it took about a day to dry, being in the basement didn't help either.

So today I've moved on to the fiberglassing portion and I gotta say, It's my least favorite part so far, May just be because I totally suck at it right now being my first time, Hopefully I come to like it when I get some more practice and get the hang of it. Anyway here's the latest pics, looks more like a spider web mess then fiber glass but oh well...

Gonna have to add some more coats, at my lowest point in the build so far :p

lots of loose fiber there wrath roll a tennis ball or similar round soft object around inside to flatten the excess glass, then paint on another layer of resin on the inside or slosh it and you should get results.
