This is turning out to be a really awesomely smooth recon helmet, I may just have to make my own after seeing yours and Lancer's recon builds... In any case, didn't Billy Mays sell mighty putty too? (
Turns out he did... and you get lots of extra goodies with it too :D)

PS - Rest in Peace, Billy Mays. You were a great man.

Looking really good. Your bondo work is really clean it's much better than mine. I have a question for you in regards to detail lines you carved out. Did you use a utility knife or just a razor blade? I'm gonna be cutting some detail into the bondo on my helm and this looks like a very good way to do it. Keep up the great work I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Thank you Sky Dragon, you should make the Recon. I would love to see other peoples work on this. Lancer’s build is nice & clean. Wish I could see more of his pictures though (Broken links).

Grave_Hawk, thank you. It’s been taking me a little while on the bondo work. Patience is your friend during this step. I still have to fix some issues on the helm with some more bondo (More smoothing required). And to answer your question about the detail, all I used to carve into the bondo was a Razor blade. There’s probably a better way. I actually need to fix it because I’m not totally happy with the way it came out (Test run). Unfortunately I slipped with the razor blade to much and caused to many scratches.

Very impressive. This is going to be one good looking helm.

Ithica
Thank you Ithica. By the way, you probably have heard this a lot . However, your work is top notch. And thanks again , for all the tutorials you have produced. I learned how to fold pepakura properly from your videos. It’s awesome to have so many 405th members take the time to put the tutorials together. As a noob, I appreciate all the work you guys have done to produce those.

Update

So, it’s been a while since I have updated. Well, it’s because I’ve been busy and have ADD (Started my Daughter’s helmet & a Ruze commando helmet too). So here goes a few more pics. Hopefully, next time I update, it will be painted. I still need to fix a few minor things. However, if you notice something, please let me know. As always, much love fellow 405th members.

The recon & my Daughter's Helm

Man from what I can tell that looks really smooth. It's gonna look bomb with some primer. I also love the fact that you are working on top of the freezer/fridge! Easy access to the refreshments. I'm looking forward to seeing some more man, keep it comin.

Thanks Grave_Hawk, I’m trying to do a good job on it. Unfortunately it’s scaled to big (more proportioned to an actual Spartan). For my first helmet though, I’m pretty happy with the way it’s turning out. I made some modifications last night to the bottom vents on either side of the chin (not shown in the pics) that resemble the new reach recon. I may change the chin up too (make more reach like). I will post some pics once I get it primered. All in all this has been a pretty good learning experience and I hope to incorporate what I’ve learned in my next builds. I may do another recon later at the right scale. Thanks for the feedback.

Update

Hello 405th! Well, here are some updated pictures. I tried to sculpt some additional detail on the area where the front side vents are located (needs to be sanded still). I’m trying to make it look more reach like. I was also thinking of re-sculpting the chin of the helmet. Let me know what you think. Should I continue, or leave it how it is and finally get to painting this beast.

Hello 405th! Well, I updated the original pictures in the post above (Deleted old pics to show with primer) and was hoping to get some feed back. What do you think about the Reach Details? Anyways, If I broke any forum rules I apologize. Keep on building 405th!

Hey Blackula watch this thread a while and i must say the helmet turns out great and the odst looks good too.
Keep up the good work and good luck with projects in the future.:)

Thank you Zero, I’m planning on painting it soon, most likely this weekend. I will post an update when I get this completed. Anyways, thanks again for the feedback. I appreciate it. Good luck on your future builds as well!

Update!!

So, I haven’t been able to paint it yet, but here’s a quick update. I official mounted the visor (it can come on and off with a flat head screwdriver). Let me know what you think of the detail. Also, I ran into a snag with the helm. I fully intended to have it completed by now. However, I was sanding a little of my freshly sculpted vent detail in the front of the helm, Unfortunately it was not completely solid due to me not mixing the epoxy putty fully, so I had to scrape and carve it off and re-sculpt the right vent. And without further shenanigans, here is my update. Tell me what you think. Keep building 405th!!

yeah, noobtastic, id like to see you start a project which you would class as leet, it would be out of this world!!
for a noobtastic build there seems to be very very little noobishnes going on, that is pure amazing, almost though you had the skills in the first place!

that chin looks so intense, GREAT work so far, honestly looks amazing unpainted lol can't wait to it done
Thank you, I’m trying. It will be painted soon. Still trying to figure out the color scheme, possibly black & yellow. I’m also a little intimidated to paint (have not done it before). I want to go for the battle damaged and weathered look. We’ll see.

LOL! Thank you very much. I’m definitely a noob at this. However, there is a wealth of tutorials & information to guide you here. Also, there are some sweet projects on this site too. All of this has been a tremendous help to me. I really appreciate the comment though.

very cool helmet. not painted it looks like but I like how it looks. Great work.
Thank you. I should be finished soon. Hopefully I can do it justice. Who knows, when I paint it, it could turn into a colossal Fail. Thanks again, I appreciate it.

Daft Punk Tron Style Helm

So, I didn’t really get much done on this helm, but I had a couple beers and got a little crazy with some expanding foam & cardboard. What you think? Sorry if I got off topic. Just didn’t want everyone to think I was lazy. And yes, those are delicious yams proping it up.
