I hope everyone had a happy Halo-ween!
I was able to get my suit "finished" just in time to go trick-or-treating!

Here it is:

This is me and my cousin,

My cousin, myself, and my uncle at his work (Can you guess what it is :p),

And the epic close-up!

My next plans are to clean my room and get it ready for the next suit for Shearkin.

Until next time!

Moar updates! In video format!!

By the way, does anyone have any idea as to the best way to harden cardboard? I looked through the stickies but none seem to explain the best/proper way.

In other news, work on Shearkin's torso has begun. I will show updates when I get the ol' camera working, or in the next video.

Thanks for watching/commenting!

Sweet! Al the foam pieces look great! I'm kinda stuck in the same boat you are here at school in a dorm room, haha.

Are those pieces based off of modified pep pieces? And when you did your cuts, did you miter the edges any, or was it just cut and glue?

Having never used cardboard I'll warn you to take my advice with a grain of salt.

But as far as what I've read you can either use resin painted on the outside or (if you cardboard is sealed well) you can do a cast of mud on the inside of it but if you did that you still need to put something on the outside (unless you just mudded both side it shouldn't be that bad) but again I'm only posting what I've read and having never done it, that would be my plan to go forward with.

Just a tip though if you can make the mud on the thick side you can actually use gloves (make sure there the kind that won't melt) and spread it on the outside of the piece my forearms were done in two coats plus some edge cleaner upper work

Hope this helps!

@Omega Ravager
But would that work for my DMR? It is made using the sliced technique, so it is solid.

@Ronster
I based all the parts on the peps, but modified them as I saw fit. I'm not sure what you mean by miter, but I will explain my procedure.
What I do is trace the pep onto my foam and cut it out with scissors. Sometimes, if the cut is too rough (which is most of the time) I sand it down with my dremel, and then the glue.
I hope it helps!

Again I've never used cardboard but a coat of mud on the outside should make it hard unless you're planning on really smacking it into something or smashing it into things and neither one of those things would be nice to your gun :(

Basicly a solid outside coat wouldn't be crushed under normal pressure though it can be shattered by maybe a fall onto concrete or something. . . also is that a scratch built gun or a modded nerf?

If it's a nerf gun you could also coat the plastic (no idea how well mud would stick though) to give the entire gun the same texture and the paint would probably go on easier (plastic is a BLAM to paint) It would also help you with making sure the cardboard stays with the gun and make the edges between cardboard and plastic look better.

From what I've read carboard is harder to harden than say paper because after hardening there is still cardboard that can flex and compress whereas paper is very thin and absorbs the hardener.

But from what I've done with mud a coat or two (three if you wanted to really make sure it was strong) should keep your DMR up and functional for a long long time

Good luck!

pretty sweet foam build and Eod. Did you use sun glasses that were mirrored for the helmet? Also, are you going to put plastidip on your foam so you can paint it to your liking?

@wiyumishere
Yeah I am going to plasti-dip it, sometime... (and those are indeed sunglasses)

@adam4472
Why did you think that?

Some updates on Shearkin's armour. It is not complete since I don't want to guess her size and get it wrong :p
I'll finish it with her when I go home next weekend.

And this is my new version of the DMR/BR that will be in the film. A friend of mine who has more knowledge of guns than I gave me some tips about what would make the gun better. So here you go, I call it The Davidson's Battle Rifle:

What gun? did you mod it to get that distance?

btw, I only used the grip from the recon on mine. It's not actually functional past the removable mag, moving trigger and charging handle.

Proof that foam can be used for helmets!

Wow this looks great so far, I can't wait to see when it is finished! Any color ideas yet?

Yeah, I actually do:

New updates, not too interesting though.
First of all I want to let everyone know that I am no longer at university. I dropped out because comp sci just wasn't doing it for me.
But on the other hand it does mean that I have a lot more time to work on my film/armour!

I haven't done much yet as I am job searching and currently under the weather. But I do have something to show:

As you can see, the helmet is a tad on the small side. So the helmet is going to a young friend of mine who has kind of idolized me for my endeavor to make a halo film. So hopefully the helmet will fit him a lot better!

Other than that, I have decided that the script may have to undergo some revisions. So I have asked a friend of mine to brainstorm, I will post as soon as we have decided on something solid (But it will still be a dark story)

Also, my armour has to undergo some revisions as well. When I originally built some parts I was sizing them on my bare arm/leg/etc, so some parts have broken due to the stresses of the undersuit. But thankfully the repairs should be minor!
