Foam Basics

Hi , Im a bit new here and Im planning out my first build so please bear with me.
I do have a question.

What are the various types of foam used and their thicknesses?
Im not sure what block foam is, is it same as EVA foam or the gym mats ? I seem to see the gym mat foams usually used for Iron Man and Halo builds.
