By what you are describing concering the Bondo it appears you are making the mix to hot and trying to spread it after it has setting up some. Try cuting back on you hardner some, you want a nice light pink mix.

If you are allready doing this I am at a loss..

Ill finish the helmet up, i dont know when ill actually start fiberglassing the rest of it. Its been cold lately

same reason i never finished my marine armor

You could just mud (Rondo) it. It goes onto the piece a lot smoother and is a bit stronger when it is done. Nice cuz it's closer to shell casting than it is to spreading bondo so your results are more consistent than spreading bondo, and your work time is a bit longer.
