Great progress there. The lens looks great. I am looking forward to seeing some updates on the progress of the rest of the team.

Ok everyone, quick update today. I got the Mickey helmet weathered and beat up a little I didn't want it to look super damaged, but I still wanted to dry-brush it a little, so I think I came to a pretty good compromise. Also, I installed a small portable speaker in the back of the helmet, but theres more on that in the video at the end of the update. Enjoy!

I had an event for band that I had to get all dressed up for, so I figured I'd take some fancy pictures with the helmet.

This is the video explaining the speaker and also gives a little more explanation on how the visor was done.

Thats all for today, thanks for checking it out!

Nice! I like the speaker installed in your helmet. That gives me an idea to put one in mine and put a small microphone... hhhmmmm....

Wow, its truly hard to believe how fast stuff gets done when you're working with foam. Yesterday I finished up the chest piece, and got it an all the assets (except the center thing since it's still just a finished pep) glued onto the core. It looks awesome in my opinion. Have a look!

Ok, not a huge update, but I got the belt mostly completed. I need to finish the buckle, but thats about it. I made the belt out of backpack straps from walmart, then hot glued the plates to it.

Also, there probably wont be any updates to this for a good couple weeks or so, because Im going to be working on my part of this year's 405th unity project, check it out HERE! Thanks!

Ok, Ive gotten a bit of work done on the suits here and there. Got one thigh totally finished,

I also repainted the chest plate to red, because I decided it would be more convenient to do the Mickey suit first. Me and the friend getting the Mickey suit are going to a convention in June, and I won't be able to finish both our ODSTs by then. So Im going to get his suit done first, and I'll wear my masterchief suit (if it still fits :p)

I also glassed the knee and got a silicone mold on it. Ive been using silicone caulk to make molds recently, and it works absolutely fantastically!

More updates coming soon. Let me know what you think, feedback is always welcome!

O.O.... WOW, this is awesome! Steller job on everything so far man. *claps* i love it. Subscribed! :)
Sorry i have missed this untill now lol

I was just going through all these threads for ideas then this pops up! The visor, foam, stereo!!! You are suited up for this, hope you can get all the ODST suits done in time for your friends! Goodluck!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies! I know its been a while since the last update, but I've been hard at work on prepping the forearm and shin pieces for vac-forming. I'm pretty sure I mentioned this before, but if I didn't, I've built myself a vacuum-former and I'll be using it to make the shin, forearm, and shoulder pieces for the suits. I also plan on using it to make the helmets, as long as I can convince my friend to give me his helmet back so I can mercilessly saw the thing in half and fill it with wood, expanding foam, and plaster.

As for actual updates today, the belt buckle is finished, shin halves are re-inforced, and the knee mold is now complete and is churning out knee guards as we speak.

(I find it funny that you can see my hand get dirtier and dirtier as the thing progresses)

This cast is made of plaster and even after drilling a bunch of holes in it, it still weighs a ton, so I think im going to have to cast them in something lighter like smoothcast 320. I dunno, we'll see.

I'm currently in the process of prepping the forearms for vac-forming. I should be done with that in the next day or so, and once thats done I'll get to work on the forming. I just picked up 10 sheets of 1/16" ABS today, and I can't wait to get started. My first attempt at vac-forming a few months ago worked out pretty well (I made some pulls of a skyrim iron helmet), so stay tuned, I have a feeling this build is about to really heat up.

Thanks guys! Ive got some more for you today, and with this, all the pep work on mickeys suit is finished! This weekend i finally cracked down on the last two files i had left to do, a standard ODST shoulder, and an ODST CQB shoulder. Here we are:

Ok everyone, good news! Both shoulders are now finished, the chest plate has been repainted again, and I got a new lightweight knee cast in fiberglass resin instead of plaster. Ive been really chugging along here the past week or so, seeing as this armor needs to be DONE for a convention on friday. So i was working a lot to get the actual building of the pieces done. luckily though, ive been able to devote the last two nights to purely painting and oter aesthetics. Anyway, lets get the pics rolling shall we?

120530_006.jpg

Accidentally poked a hole in the shoulder, so I taped over it and re-resined that section.

120531_003.jpg

Base coat of gunmetal metallic.

120531_004.jpg

Red detail sprayed on.

120601_003.jpg

And finally weathered.

120531_005.jpg

Gunmetal metallic and krylon X-metals red.

120601_008.jpg

Weathered and ready to go.

120530_002.jpg

Got the knee cast in resin now, and its a billion times lighter than the plaster version.

120601_004.jpg

120601_005.jpg

I decided to repaint the chest with a more dark and metallic red, the same I used for the accents on the shoulders. I think it came out really well.
