Pilot Helmet, Master and Mold [[[Halo: Reach]]]

I'm just going to jump into it..

First up the master

Believe it or not the big pooling on the visor is on purpose. I didn't like how big the forehead was so i pooled it so i could sand it way down.

First bondo...

Bondo layer two!

Now time to mold! I used silicone caulk with glycerin, layered it 5 times and put resin slugs in for the keys. After i made a fiberglass mother mold.

Hot glue to seal...

First cast to come out. all fiberglass

Small flaw in the mold...

BUT I FIXED IT >=D lol

The master (right) took about 50 hours, and the cast (left) took only 5 hours!

Good Job! Am I reading that correct? Did you make your cast out of fiberglass resin? I am wondering why you did not use casting resin if that is indeed the case.

man your works amazing! I was wondering of you could do a quick tutorial of how to mold with silicone you're the fist person I've see post amazing results with that meathod, and Ive been wanting to try and mold a helmet with silicone and a tutorial would be a major help man, thank and keep up the Awesome work.

I agree with c.vega117. Your method seems almost too easy. But the results are just awesome! A more in depth tutorial on the mold process would be greatly appreciated!!!

Excellent tutorial, I'm highly impressed. However I do have a question or two. First off, let me get this straight. Do you mix 2 tablespoons of water with 5-8 drops of glycerin and then add 5-8 drops of that mix to the silicon? Or do you put 2 tablespoons of water in the cup, add your silicon, and drop 5-8 drops of pure glycerin to that combination? And for my second question, you did a one piece mold. How on earth did you get the helmet out without tearing the mold or destroying the helmet?

Sorry about that haha. I just mean look at the water to see what 1zo looks like. 1zo of silicon to 5-8 drops of glycerin.

And.... don't ask haha. It wasn't the fastest thing in the world to do.

Ahh okay understood. Makes sense now. And yeah I'm afraid of doing a 1 piece mold. I want to mold my ODST but the lip under the chin is pretty large and I feel like a 1 piece would get absolutely destroyed. If you could do it all over again you think you'd change the process a little bit to do a 2 piece mold?
