Hi all,

It's been a while since I've posted here, but I figured I might as well start a thread showing my weapon prop builds from Halo 4. You can see my Halo3 builds here: http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/26874-Finally-Started-This

The other day I started work on the Sticky Detonator. I started by slicing up the model and feeding it to Lopez, my robot whittler. Here's what came out:
10691800404_a52b9ceab1_c.jpg

After some quick assembly and another part made by Jarvis (my 3D printer) here's what I had:
10691803146_317b2cf76c_c.jpg

Here's the three parts stacked together:
10691804016_7a2b54d3e7_c.jpg

After a bit of filling, sanding, and detailing, I sprayed on a coat of primer to see how it was coming along:
10701144733_11240959b6_c.jpg

Not too shabby. After a bit of thinking, I decided to carve off the back left corner so I can make the little flip-out screen. So now I've got Jarvis building me the piece that goes into that slot:
10703093995_b69f1e433e_c.jpg

So that's the latest thing I've started.

Before I started that little beauty I started working on an M739 Light Machine Gun (aka "SAW"). Here's one of the carves in progress:

Here's the parts stacked together:

And after a bit of TLC:
10592446233_dbe2306cee_c.jpg

While the digital model was very detailed, there are still some things I had to go in and add by hand. Most notably the details around the buttstock and grip:
10592218214_d6df59acea_c.jpg

I made the sight rail/ammo counter as a separate piece on the 3D printer:
10691800624_dfc5772b37_c.jpg

Here it is glued in place:
10691755015_c00354588c_c.jpg

I've been doing some detail work on the drum magazine as well:
10703090045_bb7a7f0cac_c.jpg

I still have yet to start working on the barrel assembly. That will add another foot or so to the overall length of the piece. This is going to be a pretty sexy beast:

I'm in the fine-tuning stage on both of these, but I'll be posting progress here as I move forward.

Stay tuned.

Have I ever said how much I love your stuff? No. Well I love you stuff. I wish I had that kind of wood cutter.

I'm not sure exactly what machine you're using to cut the parts out of wood but it look's really good and a sturdy way to build.

Thor, as always your work is fantastic. I love the SAW it was one of my favorite weapon additions to Halo 4. Can't wait to see more updates to this thread, keep up the good work.

Sick job so far! I'm looking forward to seeing the saw finished and painted.

Alright, after a few months on the backburner, I decided it was time to dust off the SAW and make some more progress. Here's how the main body looks at this point:

Here's a closeup shot of some of the detailing:

I finished the 3D printed barrel yesterday:
14351313282_9025595818_c.jpg

The plan is to mold it separately. The tabbed cylinder sticking out of the back end will fit into the slotted socket on the front end of the main body:

Here's a shot of the barrel after dry-fitting:

This beast is going to be big. Let me know if you need one.

Thanks. It was a good time.

Back on topic, I've pulled the SAW off of the backburner again. Looking ath the 3D printed parts, I noticed I'd forgotten a strap. That was an easy enough fix with some styrene and Bondo:
14490480418_8918e51093_c.jpg

I've also made a bit of progress on the drum magazine. I got excited and sprayed it with a coat of my standard lightish-red prototype color:
14673916561_91bbf5aea8_c.jpg
Then I noticed a bunch of extra details and had to start cutting into it again. As one does.

There's still quite a bit of filling and sanding left to do, but it looks pretty good for now:

14490436210_1a46d9ae4a_c.jpg

Of course, it looks best from this angle:
14490460359_fded8d9a64_c.jpg

Before too long I should be molding this beast. Provided I can find enough interested folks to make it worth the trouble.

More progress to come. Stay tuned...

Awesome job as always.

Just out of curiosity, how long does it usually take for Lopez to whittle stuff for you?

Depends on the piece in question. The Sticky detonator took a couple or four hours. The SAW was two separate jobs that took about 12 hours each if I recall correctly.

I managed to get a few more minutes to work on it this weekend:
14730348763_e68aa72889_c.jpg

Most of which was spent just messing around:
14707305961_4474379619_c.jpg

14523816609_bc106c68e3_c.jpg

But now the main body is about 95% smoothed out and ready to mold:

Details on the magazine are almost done:
14597583549_90762b8fbf_c.jpg

14597535810_7651c67c0f_c.jpg

I also spotted a few more small things that needed to be added to the main body. They're the white, red, and shiny parts:
14597730017_abfeba36aa_c.jpg

14781102051_bfb36a87ce_c.jpg

At this point it needs a bit more sanding, some small fastener details, and a coat of paint. Then I can start molding it.

In other news, I've nearly finished one of the widgets that will hold the magazine in place:
14781887594_432ef05c47_c.jpg

So it's coming together:
14781887784_bee97c331d_c.jpg

Stay tuned...
