First of all, I know that the 'creation' area is probably where this should go, but for some reason I can't post in there. So hopefully this is not too offensive and doesn't upset too many people with the placement of this post. Maybe somebody could suggest how to move it?

Anyway, this is my attempt at a 30-day complete armor build. I am a complete noob when it comes to Halo costuming (or any costuming really). So, I thought I would make a tutorial of my first time attempting anything like this, so that true noobs can see how it's done from a true noob's perspective.

I am experienced in paint, fiberglass, bondo, etc. due to a job at a body shop. I have painted and repaired planes, cars, large enclosed trailers, motorcoaches, etc.

Here is my basic plan. Mark VI armor, complete with custom under armor and weapons. I will paint it the color of my actual Halo 3 character; charcoal with blue accents. It will be a weathered, war-torn look like most other's custom armor. I plan to build the boots around an actual pair of old shoes so they're comfortable to wear. The suit will be a two-piece under armor setup ('pants' and a 'shirt') with straps and clips to hold the outer armor on. I've looked at all the ideas I could find about strapping. I will use some of the suggested methods, as well as some of my own ideas that I haven't seen on here. My plan is to have lights on the helmet, possibly a fan inside, and a real motorcycle liner inside for comfort. And all of this will be done in 30 days (hopefully). That's right; just in time for Halloween!

I know this project is a bit ambitious, and probably a little underestimated on my part, but we'll just see how it goes. I will be posting pictures every day, and I am expecting to have very detailed pictures as well. So be sure to check back often if you're interested. I'll have some pics up in a few hours as soon as I finish my helmet.

Peace!

all i have to say is good luck and hope ya get it done in time... i know its duable. hope u got some good movies to play in the background and alot of redbull...

this is possible but if you want good armor it would take you untill christmas to get good armor and thats if your experienced

Best of luck to you, I'll be backing you 100%! I gave my project the longest deadline ever, hopefully by NEXT Halloween. Best advice to you, listen to your entire music library while cutting out the pep files. That and energy drinks will help you for those marathon cutting sessions through the middle of the night

Yeah I'm trying to get one done in 21 days...I have an Anime convention then and I have one other person helping me but scaling is the devil for me. haha I wish I had someone here who was good at scaling the pieces to help out that would make the pieces get done like two or 3 a day.

ill be rooting for ya... post pics when ya can... scaling wise read the stickies again, might help...

Chambs, one thing I've been doing as far as scaling the helmet goes is assembling the bottom pieces first. Move them around to fit on one or two pages and print only those. When you assemble them, you'll get a good estimate of how it fits. If you can't fit it on your head, obviously the rest of the helmet's not going to work. And if it's enormous, it's not going to work either. And that way you don't waste 20 sheets of cardstock each time you try a different scale.

Good luck with that man. You gotta be working super-fast though, so a lotta Mother and Red Bull is probably the way to go xD

Also, the reason that you can't post anywhere else is because, once you first join, the Noob Section is the only area you can start topics in.

That is the best advise for keeping your self on track. minus the red bull and replacing it with Dr.Pepper its whats been keeping me on my Halloween deadline lol.

Update:

Well this project has not been going the way I planned. And it's not even a full 24 hours into it. My first helmet ended up almost twice as big as I needed it. I spent 4 hours scaling and measuring and finally came out with a good size. I had the base of the helmet together when my cat decided it was funny to rip it up. So now I'm still in the building process of the helmet, working on no sleep. The good news is that I don't have ANYTHING to do today so my plan is to go get a haircut, come back and finish the helmet, and then sleep. Anyway, pics of the helmet and my scaling methods and things I figured out and lots more info will be coming later today. Peace!

Pfft, screw the haircut, you can always get that later. Helmet, man! Helmet!
(as absolute noobs ourselves, me and some friends are hoping to watch your progress to see if it's possible for a fellow noob to pull off in such a short time frame.)
I DARE YOU TO INSPIRE US, SIR!

Hell if you can do it i know i can. Practically everything but the chest and helm are preped and ready to resin for me.

I'll bet it was an tuxedo cat. And I'll bet his name is Maxx
(as in to the MAXX!) and I'll also bet that when he got busted, red-paweded, he looked at you, with one fang sticking out, like "Ain't this a good thing I done, Sir? Are you not pleased, my Master?"
Then he probably thought "I wonder why my Master's happy face looks so much like his furious face."

Then Maxx (which is short for Maxximum) found himself at the local shelter with the other good for nothing, meat-filled sock puppets drinking from a metal bowl.

Cats dude....c a t s.

Trust me Don't let Maxximum back into your home!

^^^ lol and i could of done my suit in 2 weeks...(easly) but the cutting part is hard.(the holding of the scissors... i cant get a pair that fit my hand well... and the cost of supplies i didnt have all at once...) my first fully peped sized right helm tho. my g/f's cat(im illergic) decided to sleep in it. i spent a FULL day building it(8am-9pm) was my 2nd attempt an i was still learning...

dsbass.... My roommate and I are currently under taking the same project build time.... We are trying to finish our suits for Halloween on Bourbon St. and voodoo fest.... We are using mostly low def models with the exception of a few pieces like the chest/helmet/ and probably lower arms... I have a ton of experience when it comes to taking on big projects like this in a limited amount of time from all of my schooling in the visual arts when I was in college. Im pretty much putting in 8-10 hours a day, after a 8 hour work day. I plan on having all of my pep pieces done by the end of this weekend, so I should be resining this comming up week. Ill try to take some pictures, all i have right now is shitty iphone camera.... The only thing im unsure about is how much bondo to use on the outside of the suit. Im thinking its gonna have to be quite a bit for the lower def models b/c they are very edgy/angular. We can keep each other motivated and on track in this thread. That would be cool to see how are progress varies. Lets see who actually gets this done in time. GL MAN!

oh, and to leet. try using a ruler/exacto knife, box cutter/razor blade thingy, with a cutting mat. You will save yourself so much time, and your cuts will be ALOT cleaner.... i cant imagine trying to cut these shapes out with scissors.

and for those of you who are questioning your scale or how to find your scale, there is an excellent sticky which breaks it down step by step... let me find it and ill post a link to it.

^i was gonna but i havent had much time with a exacto(i have use scissors all me life tho... i did art all threwout school...kg-12th i had some kind of paper art class every day... but they dont hand razors out in class...)

and the last time i used one the blade snapped and went threw my thumb(sliced it from the knuckle all the way to the fingertip threw the nail n whatnot...
