something like that... just one of the many scars/burns... but back on topic... lol dont wanna thread jack his thread... any pics yet?

No pics yet. To make a long story short, last week I tried a helmet just to get the hang of it. Ended up being scaled to MC and like 18 inches long, but really sturdy. I changed pep files because I liked the detail in one I found. Scaled the helmet, tried a few times by just building (and printing) the very base pieces to make sure they would at least fit my head. Found a good fit but the helmet is super weak. I would be scared to put all the weight of the resin on it. So now, after eating lunch, I've just finished scaling the original pep file I worked with to me and I'm going to try and scale the details I liked in the second file to the old file and adapt them once I get the helmet built. If it's too much of a problem to switch details around, at least I've got a full helmet. So give me a few hours and I'll see what pics I can get and what progress I've made. And to the person (forgot who said it) who said we should keep each other on track, sounds like a plan dude.

wow, good luck man. you must have a LOT of free time this month LOL!! What part of Vermont are you in?? I was in Burlington a couple times this last month, maybe I'll end up there again this month, maybe lend a helping hand.

to get the soft paper to hold to resin better...

paint it inside and out 2 coats... then apply a very thin layer of resin to the outside in small sections with a paint brush... then resin the inside... then glass the inside.

IDK if you were talking to me but I'm in Colchester.

only part of these shoulders i have in question, is the gap between where the bicep meets the shoulder.... not sure how im going to secure that for resin/fiberglassing.

Hey guys. Smurf, that's looking nice. I am actually printing my shoulders as we speak. The helmet got messed up again. I printed the wrong file so when I scaled it the proportions were different on the helmet. And it didn't fit. I'm way behind where I wanted to be. But the shoulders are going to be done tonight and hopefully most of the chest tomorrow along with pics of my progress. I'm also going to put up some tips I've learned to help other noobs on their first attempt and my tentative schedule so you guys can keep me on track ;) . But the helmet is going to have to wait. I'm tired of messing with it.

i did a Very thin coat of resin on the shoulders a small section at a time.(only way i could get it not to crumble...) 2inch x 2 inch square... took for ever but it worked...

Sorry I haven't updated my progress like I had said I would. I've been home from college this weekend so I've been busy seeing people, spending time with family, watching football, etc.

I've gotten some work done but I've only fully completed one bicep/shoulder piece. I'm planning on finishing the forearm pieces as well as the hands tomorrow. Chest Wednesday. Helmet Thursday, then fiberglass and prep for paint those pieces Friday and Saturday.

Then lower abdomen piece, legs, and boots next Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. That puts me at the 20th. Fiberglass/bondo what's left and paint everything that Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Then I'll have Halloween weekend to touch up anything or finish anything I'm behind schedule. So there's my plan.

I should be posting pictures tomorrow along with tips and stuff for fellow noobs and then I won't have a camera until next weekend so I'll post pictures of what I get done during the week then for those interested.

Also, is it easier to use high or low def pep files? It seems like the high def models have more of an accurate shape, but they take more time. I think the low def models would save time during the pep stage but they would take more time during the bondo stage. So I was just wondering which one you guys use and which one you think is easier.

Thanks!!!

This thread has lifted my spirits a bit--I'm embarking on a project with the same halloween deadline, so I'm hoping we're both able to pull it off! Unfortunately for me, though, I don't share your fiberglass/bondo experience, so I imagine you'll have more success than me... I hope that your fiberglass/bondo timelines are correct; I haven't been able to find a thread just yet that detailed out the minimum time needed for those processes.

Well, I havn't exactly got to bondoing anything yet, but I would believe that it would probably take the same amount of bondo. They have roughly the same surface area, it's just that the HD peps use detailing instead of flat surfaces. I imagine that it would be a LOT easier to craft the bondo on a LD suit to your liking then it would be on a HD suit, but it's hard to tell untill you try.

Ask around, I'm sure someone will have an sanswer :)

Just a tip to everyone, if you wan't to make a finished product of anything (armor, props, games, projects, homework... literally anything) before a certain dead-line, don't start to skip nights, or have like four hours of sleep a day, if you get tired, then go to bed, cause if you get tired, you're bound to make mistakes, and the overall progress will get slower than a snail. the best preparation to any project is to sleep, eat your veggies, and not rushing...

wish i could set the same deadline. I have a helmet, shin, forearm, handplate done. I had the entire jorge torso with backpack pepped, but a failed experiment at hardening it reduced it to pancakedom. i think im going to try a different approach for a majority of that part in conjunction with the pepakura. i also haven't been able to find the files for the armor that goes on the arm where the shoulder pieces attach. thats thanks to my failtacular internet. I thought it would be neat to have the chaingun and have it hollowed out for a candy bucket type thing to carry around and go trick-or-treating. (yeah im 19 and i wanna trick or treat. izzat a problem?) lol. but its flippin freezing and if i remember correctly its not good to fiberglass when its cold. and the only other hardening method that i think i could pull off before holloween would be plaster like my dad suggested. but anyways. best of luck to all of you with a holloween deadline. i have opted to just forgo deadlines and just have dates i shoot for and if i miss it, oh well. *waves as reach release passes by, as well as melee by the bay tournament. ready to wave at holloween as well.* best of luck again guys.

That's the same thing I am attempting to do. I am hoping to get it done by halloween. Had a few fails over the past year, was unable to do it last year due to job restrictions, but I have been working more lately and getting the scaling down better. Starting on the official one tonight.
