3D Printing with sugar...

Someone posted about this on another forum I visit.

And just to be clear: Evil Mad Scientist 3D Printer Project

Its a 3D rapid prototyping machine that uses sugar as a medium.

This machine has a large printable volume, but low resolution.

I'm already thinking of a two step process whereby I could print one piece in this machine and transfer it over to a machine designed for high resolution detailing.

Or maybe that DIY CNC machine someone posted would be better, I'll have to compare sometime...

EDIT: Images aren't allowed? o_O

Sugar will not work, it'll just dissolve in the resin. Unless you mean use melted sugar, thats very brittle and still wouldnt work.

Guess I wasn't clear. ;)

I wasn't thinking about resin or anything.

This would be used to prototype, and put in another machine for detailing.

I haven't exactly worked out yet how I could get any farther though. :p

Maybe some kind of clay could be used instead.

I can't imagine for the life of me why they thought that sugar would be a good medium for a rapid prototyper... I can't see this being useful to armor making, looks like it's only going to be useful for making wierd sculptural projects.
