Hello all,

This question goes out to those who travel the country (or even internationally) on how to efficiently travel with all your costuming and gear. I plan on attending this years RTX, as I did with last years event. Only this time, I have my full spartan suit ready. My biggest question is: Is there an efficient way to travel with all your gear via plane? Extra baggage ain't cheap, I know, but for the travel enthusiasts is there a way to make just one suit case work? Any input is welcome :)

Thanks!

It's really a pain....I'm moving from US to Europe and the only solution I've found was ship all the armor....and hope that everything will go smoothly...

no joke, wear it. I sword fight so I have lots of heavy chainmail and actual metal armor. As long as you take it off and send it through the scanner, you should be good. Depends on your level of dedication ;) Just don't wear the helmet, that would be a bad idea in an airport, no masks or anything.

I wouldn't wear it simply because of how long you're going to have to deal with it both on and off the plane. Shipping it ahead of time would be easier but there are also large travel containers that musicians use. You can always pack all of your stuff in there, clothes, etc included and do it that way. Granted, you'd have to buy it but it would allow for a lot.

No one ever said cosplay was a cheap or easy hobby.

I got (borrowed) large pelican case. They are durable and have wheels. I was able to fit my entire suit into 1 case and arrived safely.

Wearing it onto the airplane sounds a little difficult in my mind. Flying out of where I live, we don't have planes bigger than 24 passenger. The instrument case or pelican case sound like an awesome idea, and I'll have to look into those. My first thought was to just ship it like Morkar suggested, but it's kinda a last option now. Not sure I'd feel safe shipping something to a hotel lol.

Thanks for the input guys =D

plane's are okay, but in town they have an airshow and I rode in a chopper with full ODST on and I was looking out the side of it and it was just epic plus the ploit said he wanted a suit, and yet I turned him down saying the flight boys have different armor then us.

I feel like as long as you call them ahead of time and let them know you'll have a large package coming and you'd like it sent to your room that would work rather well. Check in, boom armor is waiting for you to be awesome! Then again that depends on the hotel as well.

I attended a convention in Texas a couple years ago with my Mando. I had it in a 55gallon rolling storage tote. Now, it was fairly expensive due to weight, the armor alone weighed in at nearly 80lbs. But, I found it to be half the price to Fed Ex it there and back as opposed to putting it on the airplane.

The only thing about shipping though is that it could be lost or damaged... more so lost. Maybe try to get tracking at minimum then. I would be heartbroken if any of my items were lost... especially a full suit. maybe insure the thing as well? That way if something does happen, your sorrow can be drowned in some green :)
