Foam Andrew DFT Halo 3 Assault Rifle and Halo 3 Marine Builds

I decided I should probably make a build thread for this, so here goes.

I’m currently in the process of using Andrew DFT’s Halo 3 AR files so I can have a prop to carry around, and since I’m making a weapon from Halo 3 I also decided that I might as well make a H3 marine costume just to have something to go with it. I don’t have any progress done on the marine yet, but once the AR is mostly finished I’ll get started on the helmet.

Here are all the progress pics of the pew-pew so far:

I love the AR!
May I share a tip that I find helpful for getting extra-clean cuts?

Here’s my current progress on the under-barrel of the gun. The lines are much cleaner as I am using the proper craft blades for the job, and I hope to be able to get further throughout the week as well.

Seems you are getting much cleaner cuts now! The tip I was going to suggest is to keep your blade as sharp as possible all the time. EVA foam can dull a knife surprisingly fast. If you can get your hands on a knife sharpener it will certainly keep that blade as sharp as possible. Personally, I do a few cuts, then sharpen the blade. A few more cuts, sharpen again. I replace the blade entirely after each armour piece. A sharp blade will allow you to cut through the foam like butter!

Thanks for the tip! I'll keep that in mind. :D

I need to remember to actually post my progress here, lol. Anyways, I got some work done on detail for the under-barrel section and thought I should share:

Idk if it’s showing up but I just tried attaching images to the previous message. My internet connection isn’t good enough to see if they’re showing up for other people, but I don’t see them.

Looks good!!

I recently broke my 3D printed AR and will probably be remaking it out of foam. I might have to take some tips from you ;)

Also, thanks to Kaiser, I have a Marine helmet to work with.
I did a very minor sanding job because some edges were a little rough, and between today and tomorrow I’ll be using the Eden(shade of green) Rust-Oleum Satin Paint+Primer to get the green paint job, then I’ll take some black acrylic paint for details, clear-coat it, do weathering, and then add the helmet padding inside.

IMG_2908.jpegIMG_2909.jpegIMG_2910.jpegIMG_2911.jpegIMG_2912.jpegIMG_2913.jpegIMG_2922.jpegIMG_2926.jpegIMG_2927.jpegIMG_2928.jpegIMG_2929.jpegIMG_2930.jpegIMG_2931.jpegIMG_2932.jpegIMG_2933.jpeg

The clear-coating has also been completed, so the next step will be to weather it and then add in the padding. For what it’s worth, I think I’m doing a good job on this, seeing as how I’m trying to paint it and work on it all by myself to become more self-sufficient in my crafting.
