AtomicDeadlock Survivor Carter-ish-type Build

I cannot begin to describe how incredible frustrated I am right now.

For awhile now, I've been feeling like my thigh and calve pieces are too large.
I resized them and resized them and eventually settled on letting them scrape on the calves because it wasn't getting better.

I've found the reason why. In Armorsmith, the thighs in the 2D plane are not scaling correctly.
Using a random location, the 3D model and 2D models measure completely differently.
When I scale down the 3D model, it scales the 2D model by the same factor but they are still off.
Deleting and reimporting the file doesn't fix the issue. Honestly not sure what to do.

I think it doesn't like any non-uniform scaling changes. See example where I squished it and the unfold didn't change.

Alright. So after not being able to sleep last night due to stressing over the thighs, I started to remake them.
Foam pieces are mostly put together. Only reason I'm not finishing them tonight is I ran out of 5mm foam.

I'm definitely on track for next week. Two small issues have been identified though.
1) Apparently I have a great ass. When I bent over, a thigh strap tore. I foresee some re-sewing. I think I can reduce the straps holding up the thighs from 2 to 1 and move it to the side.
2) I can't get the shoulders on without help as I couldn't get them on for the suit up below. Flexibility is limited fo' sho'.

Last piece is almost done. ~3 days to go until Toronto Fan Expo.
If needed I'll just dry bush the scratches and do any remaining hot gluing at the hotel the day before. So maybe ~4 days.
Either way, paint should be done/mostly done tomorrow.
Cutting it close is my specialty lol

2 days to go until Fan Expo Toronto...
Tomorrow visor and foam padding should be installed. Then helmet will just need the red stripes, silver bits, and weathering.
Going to pack a repair bag with sewing stuff, some craft paints, and hot glue just in case.

I have new thighs almost done too. One needs a white stripe painted around it, but otherwise just need be weathered.
Tomorrow night I expect to not get much sleep over the stress lol.

I will do a final test fit tomorrow with the helmet, but I'm pretty much 99% done.
New thigh pieces are almost done. They are grinding against each other in the middle, so I'll remove a little material to tighten their radius on the inner thigh. The seam will be hidden so I don't really care. Otherwise, they're fine.

Helmet still needs weathering and the padding. I'll do this tomorrow since I need a new chip brush.
Pretty happy I have some time to spare. Can relax a little.

Still not sure how to handle not being able to put the shoulder pieces on with the chest piece on.
I'll try to put them on before the chest piece but the commando shoulder is very unwieldy and like to get in the way.

The fact you pretty much finished this in that amount of time is both amazing and terrifying. I cannot wait to see that this weekend!

Thank you haha. My apartment reeks of spray paint. Pretty sure I’ll be high for the next year and a half.

Smallish issue. Broke my zipper.
Whoa! Not my pants zipper you freaks! (Jkjkjk)
My ab wrap zipper had a tooth break.
Luckily I had a spare to replace it.

I’m too lazy to put the pants stuff on bc I know it fits. But here’s the suit up of my upper half. Everything is grinding a little. I regret some of the choices I made but I guess that’s what makes this a learning experience. I think I’ll make an odst next.

Wanted to give an update since FanExpo Toronto. I'm so happy I was able to make it and meet everyone. My armor turned out amazing so I'm very thankful for everyone's support and advice. There's some repairs that need to be made and some lessons learned but I'm looking forward to getting everything ready for the next event. At this point it's looking like Motor City Comic Con in November.

Thanks N8TEBB for letting me borrow the hammer for this pic!

I think I'll do some additional post for a photo dump and maybe repairs. Maybe someone can learn something from what I'll do to fix things.
For now I'm gonna rest up and catch up on my sleep haha

Taking stock of repairs and maybe half needs so work.
Some parts are torn which is easy to repair and re-glue.
Boots are falling apart. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to glue one large piece of rubber to the bottom of the boots.
I'm just going to re-glue them and slowly work on some better ones.

My largest concern is the paint peeling on some parts. It wasn't the best idea to use white foam on high use areas that rub. See inner thigh.
I'm going to get one of those cans of plastidip and basically paint over it in black.
I think it also doesn't help I never sealed the armor in enamel because I didn't get around to doing a black paint wash. Not sure I need it though.
Boots and calves could use a brown paint wash for that sand/dirt color. I might just enamel and call it a day.

Big oof. Maybe it wasnt the best idea to wear glasses in my helmet. Scratches on both sides on the inside of the visor. I need my glasses though so it is what it is.
