Baby’s First Foam Build

How does the mock up cod fit on you? It may be easier to build it with foam and add or cut away material after.

For the shoes, I am pretty sure ExCeLLuR8 used the shock covers of jeep/truck suspension coils? Something like that? It looks great nevertheless so I'll let him say
The front and back bit fit fine, but I have trouble with getting it on and how it rests on my waist. I may have just been printing too big and too small, but as of rn it’s the parts connecting the front to the back that are currently being weird. I think I’ll mess around with size a bit more, and then if that doesn’t work I’ll just see if I can lengthen the amount that it can reach around the waist? It might be fine once I get the buckles and i no longer have to put it on like pants

Yes, I use 4x4 off road shock absorber boot covers..they're rubber and super flexible. I wrap around the host shoe with a rubber strap made from a tire inner tube. I then glue the rubber strap to the rubber cover with 5 sec super glue, super glue bonds rubber to rubber extremely well.. this system allows the joint cover to be removable and replaceable and NOT permanently attached to you foam boot forever. You'll probably never need to replace them as they are super durable, but maybe you'll want to take them off to clean under there sometime or replace shoe laces! ;)

Oooh! Those look awesome.. gonna do my best to implement that into my shoes and get rid of the chunky plastic I’ve got on there now asap! Would I be able to get these at a Lowe’s? Or would I have to go online/ a different store?

OH ALSO another question, since I’ve been struggling with this: what’s the best way to keep armor from shifting around/ falling down? I have heard that Velcro works pretty ok but I wanna make sure I know I’m going about it all right before I buy things

You would have to either go online or find a local offroading truck store (if you even have one nearby) I live in VA so yeah, we have those.. lol

This is looking great!! also velcro is one way to stick it to you. theres also using straps. But my personal favorite is snap fasteners. it's easy and no sewing. check out the tutorial
mine doesn't go anywhere.

Hey guys! Long time no see, I’ve been pretty occupied with the end of my winter semester and the beginning of my online spring semester, courtesy of covid19... While self quarantine is kind of nerve wracking, I’ve still been making some progress! I finished both of the lower and upper arm pieces, and all I have left to work on is the chest piece! I’ll be painting armor soon if all goes to plan, so if any of y’all happen to have any tips for that please let me know! I’m currently planning on using Rustoleum Leak Seal to prime it, either Sherwin Williams or Rustoleum again for the color coat, and then sealing it off with Americana Matte Sealer!

What did you use for the bottom soles? I'm trying to find a solution that gives me grip without collecting rocks and that looks perfect

Hey there, I used half inch thick rubber horse stall mats that I cut to shape and adhered to the foam boot with shoe goo. The entire inside of the boot is also reinforced with shoe like the rest of my armor.. the host shoe inside is bonded to the rubber mat soles with a bedding of shoe goo as well.. these boots are insanely tough amd have withstood hiking on rough gravel trails on in the woods. Pic attached is after 8 hours walking miles at a local Renn Fest. Also another method I've seen work well is making the sole out of eva foam but bonding a thinner treaded rubber mat to the foam with barge to create a durable thread. It would be a little lighter than my method. Of course if all you're going to do is stay inside at local cons, you could probably get buy with a thick eva foam sole too. All depends on how tough you want them to be..good luck!

Hello! I finished the full suit about a week ago, and I’m now making sure all the gaps are filled and that everything is clean and ready to go for painting! I’m pretty nervous about how the paint job is going to turn out, but I’m sure it’ll be good!

Woo! Awesome! Would love to see a few more shots of the armour a bit closer up if possible. Looks like you nailed the geometry.

Ok, so here are some closeups for the pieces I haven’t posted closeups of yet! The chest piece is a little messy in some places, but otherwise I think it’s pretty ok!
