well after looking at some of adams, bluerealm, and so on that there torso piece seems to be closer to the chest than what the 3d models do. so i did a very simple modification to the tors piece to fit tighter to a person's frame without it sticking out about half a foot in front of them disabling movement so here's a pic of what I've done if anyone likes the idea ( I dont know if someone did this or not dont want to take credit for it) let me know so I can release the model for pep.

the model after

and before

and i did this because i know that the torso is the main reason why range of movement is so limited

broad shoulder build

non broad shoulder build

all models need unfold feel free to post your own unfold

It seems like a good idea, mainly because those original models were made to fit master chief, and i can say confidently that there arent too many 2 ton half man half robots making pep armor.

It also seems to me that this kind of adjustment would vary depending on the natural build of the person wearing it. Thats why most of the molded armor you see around here fits so well because they build their pieces off of armatures that are close or exact to their size and build. So I'm not sure if you should release one version of this model but maybe 3 or 4 different models varying in size.

hmm.. well if i did something like that there would be alot of hit and miss for individual people and alot of unfolding would be left to the individuals own time well maybe this could be a start of something I'm not too sure about it

@ DoC ByTeS

yeah the bulk does make it look more right but i dont think its worth the limited movement of my arms. so maybe there is a happy medium between the two like having some bulk to it but still "thin" enough to allow movement?

Thats true i wasn't thinking of that, either way its still a good idea.

well I'm going to do some details to it not a lot just some that can be added plus some supports

Its a good improvement to make.
My armor was done like that, I took the basic shape, and made it fit to size.
My only problem was that I completely forgot that I don't look like this
200px-the_way_of_the_dragon_1972_bruce_lee_flex_front.jpg

So my problem was that, since I'm shaped more like a Popsicle stick, the lower sides of the armor kinda stick out and get in the way of my my arms hanging straight down..
Oh and since I don't have broad shoulders either, I had to sacrifice some movement in order to keep from making a skinny Chief armor. I can barely use both hands when I put on/take off my helmet.

well i can, well anyone can shape the model to fit people with a thin build to a broad shoulder build to a big build so maybe i should do that too after i put in some details.

i hear ya on the chest, i made mine for my body till my arms got bigger .i have to redo them so my armor doesnt look small on me

well i plan on getting this piece out by at the least next week. I'm not adding a lot of details just some that would be painful to do in pep and easier to do with just cardboard templates instead, as well as the "lining of the torso so it's a little more supportive plus I'm adding supports to prevent warping.

*UPDATE*
well after doing an unfold and printed it out at the same scale as a normal torso it indeeds fit just as good as i had planned

and its a snug fit and i think that arm movement will improve and there's more to come

For me, the chest piece isn't the trouble.. it's combining the chest piece with the shoulders, I'm tryng to figure how to redesign/modify them so they allow for a better range of movement.. but to be honest it almost seems like that's too much to ask for while keeping a good look on the armor, plus I don't want to start ripping my own armor apart until doc gets his chest casted and I steal one so I have my old one as a spare...

the only thing i can think of for better movent is make the torso shoulder straps thinner or closer to the neck, or do what i have seen with adams is have the shoulder go under the torso to rasie your arms but i think its agreed that the torso piece is the reason for movement imparments what do you think i can do for that problem

the above is a link to the torso with someone who has an ectomorphic build or someone who doesnt have broad shoulders like myself who is mesomorphic

and heres the original better fitting torso

Pretty interesting. Though wouldn't it be easier to modify like for example FS HD Torso. What i think was to trim some areas and bring them closer for a snug fit. But thats just me. Good to see someone who is making better fit torso's for small people haha.

well if you still want hd you can do a franken pep thats what i'm doing right now since squirell used the same model to base his model for hd so you can mix and match parts

well anyone with some simple understanding of the tools 3d modeling could've done this and if they also understood how unbearable it is for a chest piece to be called boobs because it sticks out so much

Lol how funny. I use to learn how to do 3ds max and that was a pain for me. Though i pretty much stuck with autocad and revit in drafting class.
