BLOXX3R’s Spartan-III build, 3D Printed

Print came out great! Unfortunately, the small adjustment I made to the width was just a tad too much, so it doesn’t sit comfortably on my calf. Too tight :( I’ll be sticking with my old calf armor for now, and resizing the knees to fit them. Anybody want a calf scaled to 102%? I’ll trade you for a spool of pla+ lol

It’s a shame, too because this was probably the best print my printer has produced to date.

They came out super clean! Definitely hang on to those settings, they look pretty dialed in. No chance of being able to shave out the inside of the calf with a dremel or anything like that? 2% shouldn't be too much in terms of size but not sure how much material would be left if you shaved down.

It’s probably possible, but not worth the work in my opinion. My other calves are the same size just 4% wider, so I’ll just reuse them and clean them up the best I can and save myself some effort lol

Here’s a little mockup of how my knees look! I’m liking the way they look!

A bit of a tangent-

I’m looking into getting a new printer. I found the Ender 3 S1 which is basically my Ender 3 Pro with all of the upgrades I have installed AND more, and it’s a really nice price at around $310.

I can’t decide if I want to pick one of those up or go for something a bit bigger?

Any suggestions?

I always recommend the midsize printers over the really big ones. If all you have is an Ender 3, I would recommend getting one in the 300-400mm print size range. All Creality printers are pretty much the same so most CR10s will work the same and have interchangeable parts with the Ender 3 you already have!

Hello again!

I posted this over on discord, but I figured I’d post here as well to reach as many eyes as possible.

I need some brutally honest opinions. I have been overthinking everything about my suit lately and it’s driving me crazy. I keep noticing details both big and small about the scaling of my armor, and if I don’t stop myself I’m gonna end up re-printing the entire suit lol.

What are your guys’ opinions on my scaling, and what can I change to make it more game-accurate?

Do your worst

Well, all in all, you look fantastic, no doubt about it. I’m not going to sit here and tell you that you don’t or need to change anything because it’s so terribly bad. That’s just not right. Not only that, but even in your own critique of yourself, remember that there are people here in this forum or at conventions or what have you that see your stuff and look up to you. You make amazing work and amazing costumes. Watching you progress and build and change your Spartan has been an amazing process to follow here in the forum. That said, we are our own worst enemy. There are things about your armour only you will know, no one else, and those things’ll bother you to no end. I know I’ve had those, and I would say that most people here have had those. But, that doesn’t change the fact that you look ready to go and save Reach singlehandedly.

So, in light of that, and from one maker to another, it’s ok to be hard on yourself, that’s what makes you better, but don’t be so hard that you begin to hate your creation. And if it really is something you want genuine feedback for, double check your scaling. Thighs and chest are always tough for me. That’s where I’d focus my time. I honestly wouldn’t change anything that I didn’t have to, as you’ll save time, money, and potential headaches. But overall, you look amazing, and I hope that one day I can see your masterpiece in person. Keep that head high mate.

Axios, Spartan :)
