Cosplay Ideas for Beginners

Mark V (B) is 100% within the scope of a first build on a 3D printer! My first build started on my old CR-10 was actually a Mark V (B), we've got plenty of resources here on the forums if you need advice or want examples. Here's my long abandoned Mark V (B) thread that has some good examples in it: Mark V Build Thread

I wanted to ask if someone has a good idea for a cosplay made by using 3D Printers? Most people would say ODST but are there any other options? Is a Mark V from Halo: REACH possible for a beginner?
Anything can be done as a beginner suit! Each armor has its own challenges but it’s up to you what you’d want to make!

I always recommend looking at a Marine, they’re a great starter build and we always love seeing them at cons! Plus they’re every customizable with patches, pouches, and other accessories to make it your own

In my "New armorer FAQ" thread, I list my personal suggested order for starting out with printed armor. Basically starting with the loosest tolerances and working toward more and more exacting fits.

3d printers are incredibly useful tools. Any cosplay you could think of could theoretically be possible using one! Many of our members have made a Mark V suit using one. To note though, there are always some parts that can't be printed. Think about the soft parts in particular. I would suggest taking a look at our free 3d model index here on the forums for ideas as to what files we have available. It might help you decide which route you would like to take :D

You’re definitely on the right track, ODST gets recommended a lot, because there is less that seems to have to go with it, but honestly any armor can be a good first build if you take it one piece at a time.

My first build is going to be Noble Six / Mark V from Reach, and I don’t really see it as more or less commitment than other Spartan armor. ODST might have fewer or simpler pieces, but at the end of the day all of them take time, planning, and patience.

If you’re looking for other options though, I’d still recommend Mark VII. It’s newer, really popular in the community right now, and it’s super modular. You can swap helmets, shoulders, chests, etc., and still have everything feel cohesive. I myself intend to do one in the future too.

Mark VII also works well for 3D printing since a lot of the files are designed to be modular, so you can start small and build out over time without locking yourself into one exact configuration.

I think the biggest thing is just picking an armor you’re excited about, that’s what actually keeps the build moving.
