Crazy ideas for hud

or a cnc machine could do it, with a V-bit
i dont know if allot of people here have that type of money haha. what are you guys planning on for depth? you would need some sort of lens to change the depth of field. if not, its just a bunch of big blue blurry lines

Hmm, good point Mjjmk. I think if the lines are small enough, the blur might make it come into focus?
you can test this by making lines under each other (each line smaller then the other) and hold it before your face, the line that is the biggest and in focus is the best guess

thats actually a pretty good idea. if i have some money left over from my build, ill definitely try this.

ALSO i had a pretty sick idea when i was at work today, im getting a pair of vuizix glasses (personal video glasses) seperate from the build and i wanted it just for movies and such. but what if i got a motion tracker (found one for $100) and installed it onto the glasses and a prop gun? i mount the glasses into the helmet, calibrate the system to the gun and the glasses, and you can play pc games by moving your head and actually aiming with the gun!!! i just need to find a way to incorporate xbox into it, so you can play halo so you really feel like a spartan.

im going to make a youtube video to explain a bit more later.

Mjjmk that sounds Awesome!!! I'll look out for the vid, I'm pretty good with construction, but once I start getting into that I go cross eyed lol. Imagine the 405th game days with this system??? Ground breaking!!!

ok i decided to start small, ill make it usable with a simple wireless controller, but ill have to figure out some programing for the tracking. im gone for a week starting sunday, so hopefully ill get the vid up the week after the trip. thanks guys!

The Vuzix VR920s have an integrated head tracker if those are the ones you are getting. The only issue with it is it based on the magnetic poles and you have to calibrate it for your local EM(electromagnetic) sources of interference. It makes it only really useful for using in a single spot, like sitting in front of your computer.

I am not aware of anyone who makes a gyro-based head tracker but the way to go about doing it would be to get a Wiimote sensor hacked into your build so you get really nice, anywhere-goes head tracking.

Or i could get the Vuzix 920 and get the tracker module and thanks for pointing that out. To fix it, i could get one of my old iPods, remove the gyro and connect it to the module, and set the tacking motion as a set of data (coordinates) which it will most likely be already. the head tracking need not be too extensive though, because its not like you are actually going to move the distance you move in the game, as you will end up running into something. so ill have to incorporate something like a thumbstick on the gun... I'll reconfigure and get back to you, there are hundreds of ideas i have running through my mid right now

couldn't you just spray a clear coat over the UV paint? This wouldn't make you thicken up the visor but still protect the paint and allow it to be visible. Just a thought, but i think that is a brilliant idea and I'm def. going to try it on my ODST build

go ahead, but you still should get lenses for depth increase. maybe you can come up with your own variation of these ideas, and make sure to send us a link here because i am super interested

you do realise that your idea for the game will cost you more than just blood sweat and tears

preparation is the key for succes, make a MoSCoW chart, make a story board, ...
if you rush into this, you will not be happy with the result, and you can't put everything in, you can improve by making more versions of the game, but begin simple

just my 2 cents of experience

There has to be some sort of GPS based system that you could hack and include into the HUD, I think I saw something on the discovery channel, but that was many beers into the night. I did however think of an easy comm system that you could put into the helmet to assist with game chat.

iredcay, you cant use a "real" clear coat over uv paint because clear contains uv blockers and protection so paint lasts longer. at least professional grade auto clear like i work with does, but i believe even most spray can clears contain some form of uv protection. also i think it was mentioned earlier about the uv led's damaging your eyes, that shouldnt be a problem because the amount of uv emitted is very small, and anything between the source and what it illuminates blocks the uv. example, in my bearded dragons cage, he needs uv lights, and if a screen or another peice of glass is between the light and the cage itself, it will block all the uv rays and he could get sick. yes tanning beds have something between the light and whos using it, but that is a different much stronger light source.
just my two cents :p

ok idk if this is a bad idea, but should i start posting my armor progress on this thread? ill incorporate the HUD and stuff

I think just the parts you are incorprating the HUD/game systems into.
As for that game chat idea, you can get hands free style head sets that you and a passenger would wear while on a bike. If you hacked that to include the ear peice to where your ear would be in the helmet, the mic to next to the vent in the front on the helmet (depending on which style of helemt) and the aeiral to the top most part of the helmet, it would be just like the in game comm system that noble team, or any spartan usess. As for team chat, just have the team all tune into the same channel.
