i just saw this on my ghostbuster forums. ill just copy/paste...
just because disney owns them doesnt mean marvel is going to get a kid overhaul.
disney also owns (or holds marjority shares) in things like ESPN and Miramax. and if you dont remember, Miramax has pumped out a ton of non kid friendly media. reservoir dogs, pulp fiction, all the kevin smith movies, kill bill and there will be blood are just a few. and NONE of those are even remotely safe for a disney aged kid to be a part of.
this is just an uninformed opinion because i havent read up on this, but i think its just business. disney probably just saw an opportunity to make more money and jumped on it. i probably would have done the same if i had 4 billion lying around. comics are just like movies and tv shows as far as fans go. if you go and mess with something that you shouldnt, the fans will riot and sales will drop, and i think disney probably knows that. so i dont think that they will come in with the censor bar. they will just be putting some of your comic money in their pocket now.
also, with a company like disney backing marvel, that means projects that were shelved previously might have more of an opportunity to have the dust brushed off of them.
False: Miramax was acquired in 1993 by Disney however Harvey Weinstein maintained much control over Miramax as possible until it grew to such a breaking point of Disney butting in it's head that he seperated in 1995 to create the Weinstein company.
Resevoir Dogs - 1992 by Live Entertainment (later to become Artisan and then Lionsgate)
Pulp Fiction - 1994 (Weinstein pre-approved)
Clerks - 1994 (Weinstein pre-approved)
Mallrats - 1995 Gramercy Pictures (the year Weinstein leaves)
Chasing Amy - 1997 Miramax (True!)
Dogma - 1999 Lionsgate (Originally Miramax, Disney threw it out though because it was too controversial and sold it to Lionsgate, Kevin Smith never comes back to Miramax.)
Clerks TV Series - 2000 ABC
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back - 2001 Dimension
Clerks 2 - 2006 Weinstein Company
Zach and Miri Make A Porno - 2008 Weinstein Company
Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2 - Miramax (True!, although this is the last time he ever works with Miramax.)
There Will Be Blood - 2007 Paramount
That list the ghostbusters forum gave you is utter and total crap with the exception of 3 films I pointed out, although, Tarentino/Kevin Smith are in their own field.. they can walk up and sell their films to anyone and the company would be stupid to not buy them, also that's the last time they ever worked with Miramax again.
Back on topic:
To say Disney will leave their movie companies alone is a ridiculous claim as there has been numerous occasions where they've tampered with the movie or outright sold it if it had the slightest hint of something they didn't stand behind (see Dogma). Sam Raimi seems to be doing a good job killing the Spiderman series by himself.. paired up with Disney I believe Marvel has sealed their fate.
