Well, that I thought was the idea back when we discussed the 405th logo and 'Brand'

I was joking about the mugs, but I don't think stickers would be out of the question. Shirts should probably be available at DCon also.

It's a good opportunity to make an impression agreed. This is our community, and DCon is the audience we want to attract.

This post should just be turned into the Promotion idea thread. Indeed Sean, this is our audience. There are 30,000+ people walking around Atlanta looking for new and cool things, and there has to be atleast a third of them Halo fans, probably more. To start getting major attention, this is one of the first places to start, a semi local con with people from all parts of the country that is pretty darn big. It should also be the first formal event of the 405th, what better kind of place to be in for the first event and gather so many potential members around, heck we could probably steal people from the 501st.

Lanyards, stickers, pins, cheapy dog tags, shirts, a good assortment of our pieces at the booth, other things to hand out/giveaway (my mind isn't working right now, be back later with original ideas). Besides the large number of us going to be there is awesome for such a small group starting out. Promotion Promotion Promotion. I've done business to business promotion for radio, its a little different but the tactics are still the same. Got to head to work, lets brainstorm and after work I should have ideas and would love to see something else here that is awesome and doable.

Hows about those rubber bracelets I see alot of people wearing? Have those as give-away promoters: "405th.com - Honor.Armor.Unity" or somethign like that?

This is great that there is so much interest. it was just an idea i had at work this morning. Adam after you have a graphic i can check how much it would be if you want. i was not sure if a graphic or just the web addy would be best.

also blackroseimmortal i found a place that does those and the lanyards i can email and ask if they do a deal if we order both

Well those are cheap and they sure as hell get around... ive got a collection at home of all different ones and I dont even know where they came from

I would totally sport one of those and carry a few to give away in my town.

Count me in for a lanyard, and whatever else you come up with.

That gives me an idea.

I've seen them before, they're little FM radios, normally two colors, with a symbol and some text underneath it. Could be green/black (or what ever two colors look good) with the blue/gold emblem and the text could be "405th.com" or "Honor, Armor, Unity": the "Honor, Armor, Unity" may be a bit too much text for it, though.

Maybe those key chain lights?

Just to ensure we're all on the same page here.. Some of you have suggested offering things for sale. That's simply not possible from the 405th table (against the table rental conditions with management), and SHOULDN'T be possible from the 405th in general as a club. Like we say here.."the 405th does not sell armor." well.. it also doesn't sell anything else.

You'll notice that the 501st sells NO shirts, etc, outside of their club. That's not because noone can figure-out how to offer them, it's because their club recognized that it'd be illegal to sell stuff (even strictly 501st stuff) to non-members because it (indirectly) uses star wars copyrights to make money. It's written that way straight into their charter.

However, I love some of these giveaway ideas... it'd be burning money, but if everyone pitched-in for like 10 rubber bracelets each, they could opt to give those away themselves, or put it in a communal pile for the table to give away.

I'm guessing that the only way to see if it'd work would be to start ordering threads on the different products and everyone say how many they're willing to buy (pay for ahead of time) to get the bulk discounts through one of our members that could then turn-around and order it.

Awhile ago Rob suggested vacuum forming a bunch of extra handplates to giveaway to kids or whatever.. I've always thought that was a good idea. Emboss, or stamp, a 405th.com logo on them and that would be a really nice promo tool.

Ideally, I think a promo item should have SOMETHING (imaged on it, or written on it) to tie it to what the 405th is. I'd even go so far as to say "the 405th Costuming Community wants YOU!" or something along those lines.

I like the Lanyards, as eventually that'll tie into Club photo ID holders, permitting us to hold onto things like our dragoncon entry tickets without fumbling through pockets or whatever. Giveaway the extras? I don't know.. might want to hold onto them to hook up future members with them one day.. but that's not 100% needed at this point.. in reality.. any lanyard would work for future members, but if they wanted the cool ones, availibility would depend on how many units are required to reach minimal ordering quantities.

the lanyard idea was for members to use at d*con and where ever you need one. but i was also thinking that passing a few out here and there at d*con would be good too. At d*con there are some places where you id is need out at all times so the lanyard would help since many of use will be in armor. Just to clarify i was never intending to sell the lanyards at d*con just pass them out.

I wasnt getting the vibe that anyone wanted to SELL things. Little give-away promoting items are a surefire way to get the 405th name out there. And the funds would come directly from donations made here, right?

we could make Military UNSC type Custom lanyards,
it was something i saw at another con here in houston, where they made you a custom lanyard for you,

we could some how create a lanyard UNSC Recruit Card, for those not in the 405th, and give the Advanced Card to members

i could draw up a mock layout of what it would be like, it would include a place for

-name
-enlisted date
-birth
-colony homeworld
-UNSC Enlisted rank-for those not in 405th, but still wish to have a card-can have recruit or apprentice like in halo 3
-UNSC ID Number
-UNSC Division number (405th of course)
-Extra...for something you want
(we could put in a space so we could take pictures and put them in a box on the ID Card before we laminate them

but this is taking the lanyard step farther...but its something i saw that grabbed alot of ppls attention at the con

I like that idea assasin, but wouldnt that come into play after the charter has been finalized? To have official 405th I.D. s, we need to have an official 405th club, no?

It is a good idea to keep in mind for the future though, IMO :cautious:

im also saying that those not in the 405th can obtain a trainers or recruit ID so as not to be confused with the real members

To be honest I'm not really truly concerned about a badge in the lanyard, because you're going to want to put your Dragon*Con badge in the holder. All I'm really concerned about is the lanyard having www.405th.com and 405th Infantry Division on opposite sides. Possibly the lanyard in dark blue like the banner and the letters in that faded gold color from the banner.

I'm voting for your suggestion reguarding the lanyard, that would look so cool!

EDIT: My boss just got a big shipment in of promotional water bottles. Theres a sweet idea for conventions, especially if your wearing armor or whatever.... Custom design and everything. Just another idea :D

I'm sure you could get some done inexpensively. Probably a count of 30 or 50 easily. We could even sell the extras as souvenirs at the Con for like $1-$2 as a little fundraiser.

His post kinda gave me that sellin' vibe... I just wanted to make sure that everyone was clear that we can't do that.

I think it's a wonderful idea.. I'm hoping that Adam or Spase is gonna' take this over and maybe throw up a poll for stuff he finds (plus pricing) or whatever.. I'd like to see those radios and stuff, but I'm almost certain I wont have the free money to spend on it personally.. it'd be nice to be sure that the folks who support it CAN support it before someone gets into debt ordering stuff.

The T-shirt thing in the classifieds is a good example.. it seems like there's a lot of unpaid shirts still on there.

This topic is a few days old, but I've been thinking about this: What about 405th business cards? You could pass them out at Con's or any other event. Have them sitting at the D*Con table, and give them to the ones that aren't at the table, to hand out to people who might have missed it? I'm not sure how the parade works, but could you hand some out during it, too?

Maybe have the 'basic' logo with "WWW.405th.COM" on it, or something, it really doesn't matter, as long as they know who we are, and what we do.

I have no clue about how Cons work, so if this is an unfeasible idea, just let it die.

Oh, yeah. If this is too off topic, I'll start a new thread about it, if you would like. This thread has, somewhat, become a discussion about these things, so I wasn't sure if it required a new topic or not.
