Elite costuming

The other guy that made an Elite suit (wasn't it at ComicCon a few years back?) used overstuffed areas on the thighs to simulate the knee being out farther than it was. All the while, he could stand like a human. And by engineering the head the way he did, his head was actually in the Elite's neck, and the Elite's head was farther out. I think the mandibles moved, too...

Have you read this thread?
Those pics have been posted. He did a good job, no one can say otherwise, but this muscles and the way he stuffed them looked very awkward.
The elite I'm planning will most likely have foam cut to shape with the cloth stretched over it.
It's easiest and won't look as awkward.

As for elite progress.
I'm trying to find foam and am getting very upset, it's hard to find the stuff I'm looking for here.
Singapore isn't the easiest place to find supplies.

Do a quick google search for Upholstery foam sarge. There might be some online stores that could ship it to you :)

I'll try that, thanks.
I've found it's hard to get things shipped here, because even if I can get it shipped, it'll be 100+++ shipping.

yea i could understand that entirely. that would suck somethin fierce. I had to ship a computer to a friend in south africa once (from here in ohio). the shipping on that was insane. I can only imagine what it would be like having to try to get stuff shipped to you from a company like that :\

Lol yeah. I stuffed my bros paintball vest (any vest would work) with regular ice packs strapped to the inside and it worked quite efficiently!

What he used was taller. They're shaped like the letter C, and his foot is on top of the C. He just wrapped it in foam and material to make it look like the foot. Since the part making contact with the ground is directly below your own foot, they're extremely easy to use and stay balanced on. The extensions must have been made of aluminum tubing or something equally strong.

Sarge Christi, how's this going? Has there been any new progress?

Is there anything we can do on the outside to help?
I know I can reroute packages to you if you need it, I actually have a mcmaster.com account if you want foam.. they always have a giant variety of raw materials of any kind.

Nope. His knees are higher up than the elites own knee, with his feet just behind the top of the shin armour. The stilts do the rest (from his own shins for support to the foot harness and then the rest of the foot). He had to walk squat to keep the effect, and couldn't really stand erect. The straightest he could stand is in the picture in this post: http://405th.com/forums/index.php?showtopi...ost&p=34211

Hey guys, just to clear things up, some people think elites have backwards knees.
(Hard to explain...) But basically, some elite armor makes is looks like the knees go backwards instead of forwards like normal humans.
The elites knees are normal. Just to clear things up. I read somewhere that someone said their knees are backwards, they aren't.

Yeah, the knees aren't backwards , but they dont have anything like a humans legs either. They are digitigrade as they walk on their toes with their heels in the air.

From the top circle: Hip, knee, heel, toe.

So to really pull that off in a costume you can use padding to create fake joints (which can look good or bad depeding on how well its all concealed) or use Stilts which make it look so much better. :)

Don't forget, elites have big feet.
I know, it's obvious, but the stilts I've seen so far all end in points (or very puny hoovs). That's not good for al elite.
