Yay, theres the detail i was talkin about. Now you just gotta stab some aliens.

...and stab I shall. Thanks for reminding me of those details, at first when I read your first commment I was sitting there thinksing "what is he on about, there's no, of yer, the handle details"

I'm tracking down the right paint colours at the moment, luckily I don't need much.

looks good! have you thought of using the colors of wood to your advantage? not to steal your thread but this is my one:

i used juliet's blueprints with leekegan's kukiri handel. i used a few different types of wood to make it look good, but the problem is that i don't want to paint it because it looks too damn good... :) good luck with your work!

VERY nice work. I wish I had been more careful in my wood selection so I could leave it like that (your right, don't paint yours the wood looks amazing by itself). Mines got card, gap filler and a whole mixture of other stuff, so I can't really leave it with the mix of colours.
I haven't got my hands on the 'perfect' paint colours yet (in otherwords I need to actually go to the shops and buy some). Maybe I could just go now....well I promise I'll get it finished real soon, and thanks to everyone who's dropped by to check it out!

By the way monk1junk1, is that screw head on your sheath made of wood? and if so how did you do that?!

That knife is the bomb. I love all these wood builds and yours is one of the best ones I have seen so far. Keep up the good work and post some pics when you get it painted!

...and then there was paint...

Hello again everyone, I finally started painting:

That's the sheath pretty close to 100% (and if your wondering the harry potter board is just covered wood for doing this kind of thing on we have lying around). Thanks for everyones interest and comments, I'm off the paint the blade (after I clean off the grunt blood)

P.S I should probably point out the textures etc look a lot smoother in reality (but I reduced the pictures a lot to put them up).

I've sanded down the blade a bit to make it slide smoothly again (paint inside the sheath raises the walls) and touched up the paintjob on the sheath, but I'm getting some varnish (as people have suggested) for the blade as painting it would require more sanding and guessing, and I like the wood colour. I should point out the white on the raised section is deliberate (in the game it is scratched/chipped around there). Hopefully I'll have the finished blade up tommorow!

hey im planning on making something like this i was wondering where you got your reference shots and blue prints from

I based mine off Juliet76's Blueprints (I think I mentioned that at the start but it doesn't matter). Otherwise all my references where just in game shots.

Progress: Really really close to finished!

oh i was just wondering where you found them, but i got it. i didnt know who juliet76 was.

The paint job...

and........done. Well, for now, as I'm sure most people will understand this kind of thing is never truly finished, but I'm not working on it anymore (it's colours could be darker and more ruggard and all those kinds of little things). Anyway, here it is:

The screw or bolt head is actually a plastic button with the holes filled and a cut half way through it with a hack saw. I decided the dark in game colours of the handle were not for me, so I roughly painted the handle with a dark brown to make it look worn/damaged, and I'm quite happy with the effect! Thank you to everyone who has had a look at this project and/or followed it's progress! If I don't post again before Saturday, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!

P.S I meant to have this up days ago but I had other things pop up etc, hopefully the wait was worth it...

Thanks, what is thengamenfornyou?[/QUOTE]

sorry i have a tendancy to not check what i'm typing every so often. i meant the game for you.

thengamefornyou... I should have been able to work that out, yet it went way over my head (and I even put it into google, duh *slaps the back of own head*)

I forgot to mention I varnished the blade instead of painting it, but it's not really photo worthy, so here's a pic of my armoury instead:
P1020304.jpg

The MA5C (AR),M6 Magnum and Sword Handle have done the rounds here already, the plasma pistol was my 'learn how to use a jigsaw project' years ago, so I'm kind of fond of it regardless of it's blocky appearence, and the batarangs are from 3-4 months back (based off Arkham Asylum game). I hope to make the Reach MA37 sometime in the new year, hopefully upping the detail on my previous builds (so many insperational wood weapon props around here) as well as get a suit of armour happening instead of a few test parts sitting around.

Anyways, Thanks again everyone! Happy Halodays (Holidays)

By the way monk1junk1, is that screw head on your sheath made of wood? and if so how did you do that?!

haha, :p ty.. that screw looking thing is just a circular bit of wood with a gap in it, pretty simple :), infact, (sorry i haven't checked back sooner) it looks like you have already done it :)

Blade Mark 2

Sorry for the Necro-ing(?) but I decided to take a second try at the blade (the sheath can stay), mostly so I could get the handle propertions better and have the piece of wood the blade is made of run down the entire handle, so it cannot flew like my first one. I'm also aiming to have a natural wood handle with varnish like alix965 suggested long ago. Anyway I'm not done yet (it got really hot, who would have thought that would happen in the summer!) but I'm over half way or there abouts:
P1020353.jpg

This is actually the fourth rough shape I've cut, I always seem to mess it up first time!
P1020355.jpg

Lots of circular cutouts again, this time with a much better drill!
P1020356.jpg

Cut them in half and line the side of the handle...
P1020357.jpg
P1020360.jpg

Loving shove an offcut into one to make it wider where the handle meets the guard.
P1020361.jpg

The large parts on...
P1020367.jpg

...and the smaller sections inbetween, this time round I cut one of the half circles in half (down it's depth if that makes sense) creating two thin ones and saving a lot of time, then sanding the edges a little so they don't come out as far.

Again, sorry to bump this back but enjoyed making this Kukri so much I felt I needed to improve it. Now I need to do the other side and guard and get sanding for the varnishing.
Hope everyone had a great New Years and 2010!!!

PART 2
17/1/2010 (or 1/17/2010 if in USA)
I kept forgetting to update this so I won't drag this back out again with another necro but I finished the handle:
P1020369.jpg

It's much thicker then the previous, but that is roughly the size it is actually meant to be (however the handle in game is thicker across the front whereas mine is thicker down the sides but no matter). The handle is also much stronger and feels a lot nicer! All the groves are cut and filed to look nice and add a lot more grip, all together it's actually rather heavy!
