Fiberglass substitute

I've asked this before but didn't really get an answer. Could I substitute fiberglass strips with those strips of mesh tape that people use for dry walling? It's self adhesive ^^. Does that mean that I don't have to use resin?

Probably could, it would add strength but I think fiberglass cloth since made for use with resin is the best.
