I would say that if you do want to carbon or kevlar it, its best to build up a layer or two in fibreglass so you know its gona go on right. If it still looks ok after add the carbon/kevlar over the top. The other benefit is if your going over with kevlar youve got the rigidity of the fibreglass to firm it up.
