Hi veryone on the 405th,
my Name is Steve an I am from Bavaria in Germany. I just wanted to share with you my progress over the last Year. I am not in hurry so it took my a while but thats ok.
This is my first Costume/Cosplay I ever made by my self. I always was a big Halo fan so I thought that i knew a lot about Halo... but I guess I was wrong.
The first thing I did was reseach. I learned about a lot more about the Halo universe and by reading book or stuff on the Internet, watching some videos about the lore on YouTube and talking to some people who were realy deep in the universe.
There was one particulary Video on YouTube that got me going and still gets me. It is the Making of the Halo 4 Master Chief Armour by Artem. Those guys are realy kicking ass.
But I also learned from a lot the great Members on this site. I just want to a few of them because there are so many great people on this page that it would take me for ever to list them all XD.
There is for exaple Robotchicken, Dave aka Cereal Kill3r, Adam Grumbo, Sara Sternberg, and so many posts on the 405th. Sorry for those who I forgot but you guys are just awsome.
NOW to the build. (WARNING : If you use something with Epoxi USE Gloves, Respirator, Saiftyglasses, if you have long hair tide then together and i recomend wearing old or garden clothes [just ones you dont use anymore] AT ALL TIME!!!)
I used Pepakura with Inkjet paper (150-180 g/m^2). I tried more and less gramm but these worked the best for me.
Printed it you pice by pice and cut it out with a knife used for surgerys. I first used a wooden underground but then switched to plastic/rubber.
At first I used a ruler for long strait lines but then I got comfortable with cutting it without a ruler. ( it takes a lot of pracatice an I still mess it up sometime).
To glue the together I just used standard craftig glue (in Germany it is Bastelkleber). I tryed Hotglue but I just did not feel right with it.
Once all is glued together I put a layer of Epoxi Resin (in Germany it is Epoxidharz) on the outside just prevent so called noses (drips that run down an leave a little hill) on the side that shows.
Once this is all dry (dont get to hasty on this step. Wait an be patient) the Inside gets a layer of Epoxi Resin with Fiberglascoat (it is Fiberglas that fells like cloth or something like that).
I did not use Fiberglas matts (the more hard and stiff ones) because some of the little eges are hard to reach with them. The cloth ones are more cuddly.
Sometimes it takes more than on layer so it depends.
Now we still have some ugly lines on the outside. I used a Dremel to files them down. Beware not to go down to much. Cereal Kill3r shows it exelent on his YouTube channel.
To get a nice and shiny outside I put Epoxiresinfiller (in Germany it is Epoxidharz-Spachtelmasse) on it and smothed it down. This can take a while.
This is how fare I am up to this date and more will follow.
Here are just some pictures from my Build.
