First time armor build

Wow I hadn't noticed it wasn't in Database. I'm surprised it's not there since so many helmets use it.:)

The only one I have found is for the EOD and similar blocky helmets, the CBRN for the CQC is the same as the ODST but haven't had much luck there either.

Today's progress equates to the UA/HUL for the CQC and a Hazop shoulder that needs to be resized

CAM00215.jpg
Now I feel old.
I remember modelling 3 out of 4 of those. Hope they weren't too difficult to build...
+sub to see how they turn out.

I'll have a look and see if I've got a CBRN file somewhere.
The Database doesn't have one, because there aren't any unfolded.
This one isn't unfolded yet, but might be what you're looking for.

Awesome, MissingSpartan7!
Do you think we could get a modded UA? Sorry off topic but I am currently working on your Infinity ODST Helmet its coming along nicely.

@MissingSpartan7: I've got a couple more of your unfolds I plan on using. They're great, only downside is no numbering, but that's not so bad as long as i have em pulled up on my laptop and can keep checking back

Today's update is brought to you by the letter S for scaling. I finally managed to get the Hazop to the right size after scaling it up 40%, but hey third times the charm right. Also since I was feeling ambitious I pepped out my Recon shoulder as well, started that one out scaled up 10% and it turned out perfectly. I also started throwing together the FJ/Para shin and knee, I'm thinking they maybe need to be scaled down a bit. I wont know for certain till I've got more of it put together.

I'm hoping to be able to start the resin and fiberglass process on Tuesday, so in preparation for that im trying to knock out as many pieces as i can this weekend.

Modified in what way?

>2D Menu >Show Edge ID
It's probably because unfolding with ID's enabled, zoomed in significantly, causes serious lag - so I turn the off, must have forgot to check if they were on before I added them to the Database back whenever.

I sent you a PM MissingSpartan7.

Wow that pep work is looking really nice . I did the CQC helmet too but I messed up on little lip above the visor and ended up just smoothing it all into one piece . I also scored the curvy parts and I couldn't get a nice rounded helmet. I sincerely hope your's goes better than mine .

@GreatLuster44: Thanks, let's hope it stays that way after a coat of resin *fingers crossed*
@SIKAXIS: Thanks, The helmet definitely had it's share of tricky bits

Mission Statement

I know i may have said this already, but my goal with this build is to recreate my S-III from Reach as accurately as my skill allows with a few little twists of my own.

Vanity_635171203898444160.png

So far the parts i have managed to complete and have ready to resin are the CQC helmet, The HUL, the Recon shoulder, and the Hazop shoulder.

CAM00220.jpg

My current works in progress include the shins, and ill be starting on the chest and back pieces later today if time allows. I may also sidetrack progress on the armor to start working on some of the weapons i wish to have with the suit. Ill either just post the completed weapons in this thread or start another one detailing their progress as well.

Weapons to be made
MA37
M6G
Combat Knife
Super Secret Squirrel Project (Which will hopefully help me stand out if done right, and not get me flamed to bad for breaking genre)

Other additions to my armor build might include the Tactical/hardcase, Armor Ability Mod, AI chip, UA for the CQC, and hopefully the CQC CBRN (started piecing on together from scratch and references)

Now the question i have for the forum is this, on the Armor Ability Mod ( http://www.4shared.com/file/H9HbnfL8/Armour_Ability_Module__JTM_AA_.html ) is that purely a prop or would it fit on the armor somewhere? To me it looks like it would mount along the lower back.

Comments, Questions, Criticisms?

And also a giant Thank You to everyone who has either viewed or commented up til now and in the future. The Input has been great and is definitely helping me keep motivated and pushing through on this project, especially since im new to the hobby and have hit a few snags already. It really is greatly appreciated.

Your pep work is clean, remember not to go over board with the bondo. apply it only in places which have warpped. the common misconception is that the whole helemt needs to be covered with bondo ...not so.

Stay motivated!

@U513: Thanks for the tip about the bondo, I hadn't actually read anything like that yet.

OK so today's update. I didn't get around to resin today, temp dropped down to 37 last night. Instead I managed to knock out about 10% of the MA37 and two hand-plates. I also got my forearm pieces scaled and ready to print. I'll have new pictures up tomorrow hopefully with the progress I've made.

So it has been a minute or two since I've posted an update, and sadly it's a small one. Currently its about 35 F so resin work is out of the question for now, I had to scrap the shin piece i was working on. I got it about 90% complete when i notice that the pep model was actually shorter and stockier then the reference photos i had. after a few hours of digging i found a file that was more proportional. I've started pepping out the MA37 and have almost all of it complete except for the main body. The first forearm piece is nearly complete.

CAM00230.jpg

The few things I've learned in this build so far are:
1) Check and double check then triple check your scale before starting. nothing is more annoying then nearly finishing a piece and realizing its not gonna turn out the right size.
2) Lots of reference pictures are a must, and check them often.
3) Spartans are not proportioned like normal human beings, i cannot even begin to count the number of times I've been about to chuck a piece because it looked like there was no way it could be the right size.

Keep it up dude. We all make mistakes as we go along. The key is not to make the same mistakes twice!

Progress update time. So last time i updated i was in the process of completing my first forearm. As of this point in time i have knocked out both of them. as well as put the first coat of resin on my helmet and handplates, which was exciting. And since its not an update without pictures, here's some eye candy

CAM00234.jpg

nearly finished

CAM00233.jpg

It actually doesn't look half bad, at the moment my undersuit consists of a long sleeve black shirt. hoping to change to something else once the suits complete, suggestions?

CAM00253.jpg
CAM00252.jpg
CAM00251.jpg

Well that's all i've got for now, next on my agenda:
1.) buy card stock, ran out before i could start the chest piece
2.) start the chest piece, i really wanna get this one knocked out just to see how BA this suit is gonna look like
3.) attempt to get 2-3 more coats of resin on the helmet, i would like to start the detail work since i believe it will more then likely take me quite a while
4.) finish the MA37 i have started
5.) slow down on coming up with new ideas, they can get distracting

It's been a while since I did an update on the armor, really hope im not breaking the double post rules. If I am, sorry. last time i updated i had just completed the forearm pieces for both sides. In the three months since i havent accomplished as much as i would have liked, but i did manage a second coat of resin on the helmet before it got sub-arctic.

^ About half way through the chest piece sometime late october or early november^

CAM00264.jpg

^ A rough test fit to make sure it was gonna fit, before i got too far. At the moment it seems like the scale is gonna be good and it will fit well. Only way to be sure is ^ to actually finish it and get it hardened up in a few months, once the weather is more cooperative.

CAM00267.jpg

^ Progress so far at the end of november, definitley looks like ive got a fair bit done once its all laid out.^

CAM00276.jpg
CAM00277.jpg
CAM00278.jpg

^Right side bicep piece finished early december^

At the moment i have the left side bicep completed to about 50% and am toying around with the idea of remaking the shoulder pieces (They seem a little off as far as the scale goes). Hopefully ill have some actual progress pics up in the next month or so instead of the slightly boring completed pieces.

Questions, comments, and criticisms greatly appreciated.

Happy holidays and stuff

So it's been about 3 years since I updated this, sorry for the necro. The build process has suffered significnat set backs in the form of moving several times. As of right now the only piece of the kit remaining is the dome. Happy to say though im now in a stable enough place to continue this build.

Recently I started working on my helmet again and currently have it bondoed with the first coat of primer. The overall design of the armor has changed. I decided i wanted to try and do a Halo/RWBY crossover, only time will tell if that will work out

And now some progress shots to make the necro worthwhile.

The helmet at the start.

20161026_171751.jpg
After a little Bondo and Spotting putty, You'll notice the little canisters on the side of the helmet have disappeared. I ripped them off shortly after i started working on it, they were flimsy and disproportioned. So instead i went about 3D modeling them to print and reattach at a later date.

First coat of primer.

Also in all the down time between primer and bondo coats I started working on how I wanted to paint, battle damage and, weather everything.
