I'd be down as well. quite a few of my shots, including my current PFP is from Hocking. I'm no expert but my Handler [If she wants to come] has brought me to a few spots. i'll inquire
[UPDATE] I actually have to bow out. The possible second coming of snowpocalypse and my car's ability to tank it do not breed confidence in me unfortunately. Apologies. Yall have fun and be safe!
Weather currently looks like its going to be in the high 20s with some sun
Low chance of snow and winds predicted to be a little on the higher side.
There will be snow the day prior and a few days before that as well so plan accordingly. I am planning to make a stop at the designated area this weekend to confirm everything and get a better idea of shots to get. Hopefully I can also find a building we can use as a warming shelter (little hope of this) so we aren't all out in the snow freezing.
The current 10 Day forecast puts the high on the days leading up to 7th around upper 20s to 30 in the area around Hocking Hills. I would obviously caution everyone to be careful and play it by ear as we get closer and day of, but at this point it doesn't sound like it will be too bad.
Also turns out my wife is actually off work that Saturday and might be able to come and be able to bring our Dog, so I can actually get some pictures in my ODST with her.
I did some on site scouting of a few trails in hocking hills yesterday. I walled the Ash Cave and Cedar Falls trails.
The Ash cave trail if very easy and has very flat terrain until the turn around point (thats where the tail gets slippery on the way back. The best areas for pictures on this trail are just before the stairs that lead to the turn around and after the stairs where you can turn off down another trail. (Dog friendly)
The Cedar Falls trail is more difficult and starts off with down slope stairs and finishes off with a small section of rocks to walk through. This trail has lots of verticality for long traveling shots from up high or down low. A main draw on this trail is also 2 frozen water fall areas as well as a nearby rock section on the way out that offer great photo opportunities. (Semi dog friendly till the rocks)
For the change in game plan that im thinking is we start with the third trail that I didn't get to explore, the Devils Bath tub. This trail has 2 photo locations that would be good to utilize but i didn't get to explore them.
After taking shots on these locations id like like to move to at least one of the other 2 I did explore but we can play that by ear on the day of. My pick would be Cedar Falls if we only make it to one of the others. I'll be keeping a very close eye on the weather and getting updates from someone who is actually camping out there all this week to get a good idea of what to expect.
Devils Bath tub actually has 3 spits we could use if we walk enough.
