First, I think the scale looks pretty good on you, so thats a plus. Second, I personally would repep to avoid the body work. However, if you choose not to, its doable to get this helmet completed. I'm pretty sure you will need to do plenty of bondo work to get the shape right. Definitely use struts to get the shape symetrical first. THen harden it. After that (before you bondo) try to knock the warps down with a sander. then bondo to smooth. Remember thin coats and small sections first. Good luck.;)

Ok, thanks. Stay tuned for an update next weekend

Blackula knows what he's talking about there. I'm working on the same helmet, I have been for MONTHS, and I will say that I made the mistake of bondoing it all at once and in thick layers and all I've been doing is just slowly trying to sand it back down. Also, only bondo where you need to, if it looks good, why bondo it.

Ok. I'll make sure. And i made the same mistake with my Halo: CEA Mark V Helmet.. Btw, where do you get the balsa wood pieces he was talking bout?

Don't use balsa wood Use:

I use bambo skewers to hold the shape. You can get them at any grocery store.

Should have been spelled "Bamboo". I get them at:

Walmart, Publix, target, Winn Dixie, or any other place that sells food. I get them because they are cheap. you can get other types of wood, but not a soft wood like balsa.

Good luck!

Okay, but how big do you make them? Oh, and do you think I get the shape right? I'm not the best, but I was VERY careful when pepping.

As big as it needs to be to make the shape symetrical. I can't tell you this unless I'm right there in your house making them. Hope that helps.

Update: Helmet has FINALLY been fiberglassed, and will begin bondo'ing hopefully by next weekend.

No warping seems to have happened at all. I am really happy with the results!

UPDATE Time!!!!

No, I did not abandon this project. And yes, I am back. lol
So anyway the helmet has been reinforced with some rondo because the resin I used was somewhat bad. I must say, that rondo heats up like crazy when using it (I seriously felt like I was playing Hot Potato)! Lol, all jokes aside, I'm really excited to get back to work now that it is summer, and would like to give a big thanks to CEREAL'S tutorial on Rondo'ing. It really helped me out:

PICTURE TIME!!!

Added another coat of resin to fix the flexiness (along with my friend's Mark V.)

Hope you all like the helmet and stay tuned for my next update. It'll be ALL about bondo'ing and sanding! Sounds exciting, right? ;)

Looks good. It's a cool helmet once you get it sanded, particularly since its already smoothed out. I built one for my grandson and the default size was perfect for a 5yr old, so no resizing needed. I did wind up sanding down the visor area on the inside almost flush, so I could attach the visor. I didn't like that part sticking so far in. Keep updating...

Thanks for posting, and yes thats EXACTLY what I'm going to do.
I don't see why you would want that big piece sticking in front of your eyes. lol

hmmm....Helmet DOES look a little warped, but I think that with enough bondo that it should be fixed. Good job on the rondoing!

Thanks. And it's actually not warped at all, but in fact dented. The overall shape is spot on, but I'm just not a good pepper. :p
Cause when I pepped it, I formed dents being too rough with the paper. You can see it in the first page. Also, when I said it was too wide, it kinda just took shape eventually. lol

I'll post some pics in a minuet. Just finished putting the first layer of bondo. I think I did pretty good ;)

And.......

Ta-da!
