It’s getting to that point where I’m focusing on my next build! The pilot’s thread should be wrapped up this weekend and the Mk7 has a little left to do, so here we are!
Background: Back in March, the operation Frontlines was released for Infinite. Within it was an armor set for the Mk4 core, called Orcus, and it was described as the next generation of ODST armor. The armor would be featured in the corresponding Waypoint audiobook, “From the Soil to the Stars”, which has become my favorite and is linked below if you want to give it a listen.
It’s a decent looking armor set, so I did some research into it. Orcus is inspired and takes nearly all of its design cues from the cut Halo 5 ODST design. The model was meant to be part of the Warzone game mode, but never made it to release. There’s a surprising amount of art for it despite it not making it into the game.
This was the concept art that sold me on the build, it’s distinctly ODST and feels like a genuine upgrade from the classic design from the titular game.
There’s lots of tiny things about this design that I like. I like that the chest has a padded section in the front just in case, the back has a honest to God carrying handle which is incredibly funny to me. The legs in particular should be comfortable since they only cover the front and sides.
The Suit: When I first decided on this suit there wasn’t much to go on, only the concept art above and one image of the in game model. Since the model was never released it would be very difficult to find and get images of. That is; until I found a Halopedia page about cut content from Halo 5, including a whole section about the ODSTS.
Here’s what it had:
Not only did it have full images of the front, back, and sides, it also had a breakdown of the layers of the suit! This was the breakthrough I needed. I sent these images to another member who plans on modeling them in the next few months, and having them makes the job so much easier!
The plan is to have this suit ready for Halo Fest in December 2026, hopefully there’s a costume contest as I’d love to enter it.
As we wait for the files, I’ve been giving thought to the loadout as well, and I’ve had a few ideas on what to make.
