I'll be posting more pictures in bulk later, but I have time for this right now. The electrical tape will be replaced when I finish the connection rods.

Here's a little teaser...

Ok, here's some construction pics.

Hang on a sec, you said you've got the hopup inverted. Doesn't that mean it's currently actually a hop-down?

Technically, yes. I'll just have the hopup turned all of the way down. There's really no other way to do it b/c the barrel has to be right against the top of the receiver for it to come out in the right spot. So not a whole lot I could do about it. (I guess I could have tried a m4 hopup, but that'd be more money and they're a little taller than the circular hop up, so yeah...)

What is the actual AR body made out of? Plastic?

Yes it is. It was a mold made by Justinian. I had to carve out a lot of the plastic filler/body to get the parts to fit though.

And a couple photos of the whole gun (one with all of the lights on).

This is awesome! I was thinking about doing the same thing but only with a paintball gun that I bought a few years ago and only used once. Can't wait to hear how it works.

I was going to ask in regards to an AK hopup, an AUG hopup, an M14 hopup, a FAL/L1A1/SA58 hopup, or pretty much any hopup that isn't for an M4. :D

Regrettably I doubt there will be much range without a functioning hopup, and even turned all the way off it's still going to affect the BB some. I'd try an AUG hopup! Bear in mind though, if you use any hopup that isn't the factory unit for the P90, you may need to change the air nozzle.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that aug hop up then. I just didn't want to make this a $500 build though (as I'm already just over $400), so I'll see about it. Besides, I have already glued the hopup to the feed tube, so I'll see what it does before I change the hop up.

Fantastic job.

Thanks, almost done. I've got a couple more minor things, and then to finish the paint job. I'm back at school now, so the updates will be a bit more sparse. I should hopefully be finishing it next weekend, so then I'll have videos and whatnot posted then.

Hey! Been waiting on an update for a little bit now, man, how's it coming along?

Yeah. I've gone back to school, so not a whole lot of opportunity to work on it. I'll be doing paint touch up and some minor stuff, but nothing major until the 20th or so when I go home again. I've been working on my armor mostly. The gun did get warped however when I was moving it around, so I'm in the process of straightening it out right now. Sorry for the delay in updates. I really want it to move faster, but nothing I can really do. I'm so close. Haha.

I think I've figured out what I'm going to do for the gearbox alignment though. If you look at my pictures, there is the silver section at the back of the gun. I'll make the cut right forward of the angle down (by the cheek rest). Then I'll just secure the buttstock to the rest of the body, but use the part I cut off as an access panel and for gearbox placement before I get that 100% in place. Should do the job perfectly, but I just don't have the tools (and I'm not allowed to have a "functioning airsoft gun" on campus, so yeah, basically I just don't have the battery even though it's not even functional now). I can post a photo of it in my room with the straightening jig I've got on it now and post it later, but nothing really exciting. Really just a stupid mistake I made without realizing it. It gets a lot of attention though! And the last thing I've got to do is pick out a darker gray color for the main receiver so it's not all silver, but yeah.

Dead,
Sorry to be late to the game. I wouldn't near necro here except I realized you've been active on the site lately. I have a low cost solution to your hop-up dilemma. For my Spartan Laser project, two of my three gear boxes are mounted inverted. I cut off the attachment point and epoxied it back 180 degrees reversed to preserve the top-feed configuration. It seems to be holding without issues. For your installation, you would have to cut just ahead of the feed hole and re-glue the parts 180 degrees rotated to get an upward hop-up with a bottom BB feed. I get my P90 hop-ups at http://echo1parts.com/. Should be under $20 bucks for a spare.

Use a nozzle coated in mold release to get a precision alignment from the inside and keep glue from getting inside the chamber. Following that mod, your hop-up, barrel attachment, etc should function as originally built. Details of my process are on page 25 of my build. Feel free to PM if you have questions. Good luck. This has been a great build so far. Please finish it!

Welp, I'm back!!! :D College was a pain in the a$$ and I wasn't able to get any work done. :'( However....... I've finally got new progress! I decided I had to violate the external appearances a little to make it work. I drew up and cut out two mounting plates that would hold the main sections together and provide minor support.

Drilled through the body and inserted a threaded rod so that both sides could be mirror by using two nuts rather than a bolt and nut.

First time ever one-arming it without tape holding it all together. Feels incredibly solid.

Another first! Well, kinda. First time that the rifle has been back together since November? Idk, but it's been a looooonnng time. Going to add another threaded rod in the buttstock right above the trigger, but enough jibber-jabber. Pics!

Better late than never Redshirt. (Website won't let me reply with quote, but this will have to do.) I got a replacement barrel and hopup. I sacraficed my old brass one for an airsoft M2 .50 cal that a buddy and I are building. Got a shorter tightbore so it doesn't poke out of the end like the old one did. And we had the same thought on that hop up. Haha. That's what I was planing on doing. Did you just heat up an xacto knife and go to town or??? I didn't want to run a saw through it because that'd be too thick and I wanted to remove as little material as possible.

I still have to order a feeding spring from McMaster Carr to go from my p90 mags to the hop up unit. Will do that some time this week. Then I just have to align the parts and I'm golden. Thanks for the help man. Glad to be back. :D

I actually did run a razor saw through it. See your local hobby shop. It hardly removed any material. The thick super glue I used added it back. Take a nozzle and coat it with PVA mold release (hold that thought) and jam it into the chamber parts as you glue it back together. The nozzle will assure correct alignment and make sure there is no interference with the movement of the nozzle during firing. I would recommend strengthening your new frankenhop externally either by gluing additional plastic onto the ribs or by designing strengthening into the hop-up mounting of the gun itself.

SpartanLaser9911.jpgSpartanLaser9910.jpg

Back to PVA (polyvinyl alcohol): PVA mold release is about $9 a bottle if you can find it. However, it is the same material used to make some glue sticks. Find one, thin some down with water and paint it on to the nozzle. After drying about an hour you should have an effective mold release coating. Don't use wax, oil or grease as they may weaken the glue.

Looking great so far!
