halo wars or no halo wars?

I don't really have high hopes for it, microsoft have a pretty shoddy track record for this kind of thing, look what they did to the Mech Warrior franchise.

Microsoft with Ensemble Studios also released the Age of Empires RTS, one of the best RTS series EVER, which is what Halo wars is.
I think this is gonna be spectacular. I maintain that a PC only release would be the best thing though. Controlling a RTS with a conrtoller is dumb.

Edited for clarity

I dont like computer games, and Halo Wars probably wont be such a big hit. At least thats what I think. And if its out for Xbox360.... that kinda seems dumb for that kind of game... I dunno, im debating whether to get it or not.

Command and Conquer 3 did rather well for the X360, and having played it myself, I can say that RTS games CAN work for the console if done in the right way.

I have high hopes for Halo Wars, but I certainly won't be disappointed if it doesn't meet them. C'est la vie.

Also... shouldn't this be in the Halo Universe discussion forum?

Releasing it only on the PC would have been a mistake. They want the game to sell well right. Most Halo fans play Halo 1,2 and 3 on the 360/xbox so putting Halo Wars on PC would cut out a fair amount of Halo fans.
Personally I dont much care for RTS' but I'm willing to give it a bash for Halo Wars.
And it looks like they've mapped the controls to the 360 controller pretty well.

@Primal Weyland: I have heard that many people enjoy the command and conquer series for 360.

@Red Togusa: I see your point. It would be a bad business decision to switch platforms.

I LOVE RTS. I really enjoy playing with a mouse and keyboard. That's just how I learned to play them so thats what I know. I hope that they release it on 360 and PC and allow inter-platform play, that would be awesome.
All that aside I'm very excited about this game. I like halo, I like RTS, I love Halo RTS. :)

I deny Mechassault as any kind of Mechwarrior game. Where's my Mechwarrior 5?

I'm honestly really looking forward to Halo Wars though. I'm going to be pretty dissapointed if it falls short.

OT but the original FASA studio guys bought the Mech Warrior franchise back off MS, so hopefully they take it back to its roots. Mech Warrior 2 was the best one ever, hopefully 5 continues from that, and not the garbage MS versions.

if you guys saw the demo they made the controls look really easy and other than command and conquer lotr battle for middle earth was released on 360 and i knw people that play it the entire thing about rts on consoles is not the fan base but if the actual controls are easy to use like every first person shooter on 360 right trigger is shoot left stick is move and right is look all the other buttons can have different configurations but if youve played one shooter you pretty much know how to play any other one so if they get the controls right itll be good

"We've spent a great deal of time simply on getting the controls right. Halo Wars was created for the Xbox 360 from the ground up, which meant we didn't have to make compromises or shoe-horn in artifacts from a Windows PC game. We were able to take all the best aspects of RTS games, make them work perfectly on the Xbox 360, and exclude the rest."- Halo Wars Website

that site has the same stuff on it all the time and it almost never changes, but ya they did build it from the ground up. it all matters on the controls like that game Lair it looked sweet but the controls are really hard cus you have to use a motion sensor to control it instead of the joysticks so nobody liked it cus it was too hard to play.

I miss my mechwarrior I have been reading the battletech books since the 80's and I love them even have a model of the Mad Cat mech in my computer room. The bad thing is that WizKidz bought the mechwarrior rights from FASA so who knows whats going on with it now.

Funny I just went there, and they had a monthly update posted as of yesterday. It said there were going to have a tournament to test out the version they've been working on so hard lately. I'm glad I went there as I was wondering if any progress has been made on the game lately, and that gives me some hope that they should be able to finish this by the end of the year, hopefully. Lately, I had been wondering if they adopted Blizzard's tactic of saying "It's done when it's done". I can be more patient for Halo Wars, but Blizzard has had enough time to have finished Starcraft 2 ten times already if freaking Warcraft hadn't gotten in the way.

it's not going to be a big action game, but it should have a good story, so I'll definately be getting it.

well rts games are never really very action driven their always story driven because ya you can have a lot of bloody heads getting chopped off and stuff, but unless its you doing the chopping; its not very dramatic. you appeal more to a game where your the one killing people instead of the one telling other people to go kill someone else anyways.

yeah but a good rts game can go more indepth with stories and enhance the genre

Well Bungie should have told M$ to f*** off and taken care of it themselves since they give a damn a lot more than M$ - we can only hope it'll be good
