Help with the size for a noob please

Ok what's up guys, I'm ready to start my armor making today. I'm using the Smoothed Recon file by Belakor and macattack. I need to know how to make this thing fit my head. I tried reading the noob guides and confused myself so can anyone helo me out and put it simply how to measure it correctly? Because I don't want to do this and find out it's too small.

Measure the width and length of your head. Not the circumference but a straight line. Then, in pepakura designer, use the "measure distance between two points" tool to measure the inside of the helmet where you measured your head. Adjust the size so that the measurements inside the helmet, from the smallest point, is about an inch greater than the measurement of your head. So, for example, if your head is 170mm wide, the inside of the helmet where that part of you head would sit should measure 195.4mm.

Sounds good but you won't know for sure until you build it out haha. One of the many joys of pepakura

Thank goodness for this thread popping up and saving me the search. I just built my helmet, went to put the visor in and found it a bit too small and "bending" my nose downwards :lol

Time to research before starting again but at least they get better with every attempt. On to try number 3!
