My friend showed me this on youtube. I've been trying to make one but I have no clue where to get the fuse string. Im planning to use one of those for an airsoft match.

this would be sweet to have in a airsoft match but with different color of course  hey if yourin wasington and 15 we should have one..ive been dying to do one for a long time

Ok first off, after seeing that thing explode, Im kind of scared it will explode in my kitchen. LOL. And if it does, then I am in for being grounded. And one question, do you have to wear gloves while handling/cooking those materials? If so, will the potassium nitrate burn your skin or will it smell or whatever.

Ha this actually worked so good. I finally tried it and it was fantastic. I was a little scared when i was mixing it on my stove but nothing happened. Instead of red i had green smoke and it was nice!!!!

Hmm..on second thought, can a sparkler work as a fuse? just shorten it by half or so?
That would not be a good idea since they burn at 900 - 1000+ degrees f. way to hot for a normal fuse

The guy who posted those videos (shootingeggs) has made any other fraud videos. The smoke mixture will work but you can not dye smke that easily it takes lots of different chemicals, adding die like he says only make your grenade burn slower. In the video he uses a military smoke grenade wraped in ductape.

Yeah, to get different colours you've got to add chemicals, like with fireworks. For example, adding copper should give it a green tinge, or it might not. I, personally, have never tried this, so it's just guesswork.

Well, I made one....and it exploded in the pot while I was mixing it.
So I had to take it outside and hose it down pretty much. It didn't really explode, it started smoking and stuff so I rushed it outside which it then started flaring up.

you asked for it. go to 1min 30 seconds to see where he screws up

this is what happens when you try to make this sort of thing in the completely wrong type of container, too much at once, and on way to high heat.

these kids deserve whatever they get the next time they try something like that without properly learning wtf they're doing.

me n some buddies almost always make those little snapper fireworks. The ones you just throw at the ground and they pop. wicked fun. But you have to respec the fact that what you're working with can and will kill you given you screwing around with it.

colored smoke bomb recipes, white, red, & green:
http://chemistry.about.com/od/demonstratio...smokebomb_5.htm

I tried to check the ingredients of "organic powdered dye" but it's not available online.

Here's another good resource: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coloured_smoke

AHA. Read through the comments here, especially by 'Pest': http://nerdnirvana.org/2007/07/09/how-to-m...ed-smoke-bombs/

"The amount of baking soda in the video is not measured (hint), he just says a big spoon full.. more baking soda decreases the burn time thus creating a lower temp at which the dye is not decomposed because there is a slower reaction. The faster a reaction, yeilds a higher temp. Just like rubbing the palm of your hands together, the faster you go the warmer they feel. When a chemical reaction takes place, it creates heat, to slow down the reaction would create less heat at a given time." -TheEnigma
