So I started making an older Recon helm for the release of Halo: Reach (going as my avatar from XBL, Bungie hoodie and Recon Helmet).

And well... You know the old statement "measure twice, cut once"? I thought I had it scaled, then I re-organized it, because I like my unfolds my way, and well... turns out it's 15mm too small.

I was saddend by this, but I realized I could finish making it for my little brother's girlfriend. So I finished pepping last night/this morning. (pics below)

But I am going to be making an actual size one for myself starting today. I should have them both finished (with minor detail, not full) by the release date.

I know I started late, so shush!

Partial Pep front and side

Shout-outs go to Belakor for the pep file, and Macattack64 for the original smooth unfold. (but I made it better lolz)

And this is by far one of the easiest and best peps I've done, so if anyone wants to build a recon, go with this one, I might be able to supply you with the file I used if you has a big head like me.

Would you possibly be able to wing it and shave off parts of the bottom-most ring to be able to fit your head in? Usually that's the biggest factor in keeping the helmet from fitting.

Nope, it's a super tight fit being at 265mm so I want mine to be 280... I was wrong about the measurement in the previous post I meant 15mm lol I think I'll edit it ... again.

Update 9/5 Recon 2.0

I started assembling Recon 2.0 yesterday, a bit later than planned but nonetheless.

The way I assemble is in chunks. I print out a page, cut, fold then assemble that section (yes I move my stuff around so I can do this, so does Mr.Oreo123).

Well, when I was putting on the second half of the face, I thought it looked like Predator-ish, so I took a pic.

Lols Predator-Recon

So I finished that part and decided to set it next to Recon 1.0

You can see the size difference 15 mm makes. I was shocked lol. I'm hoping to finish 2.0 tonight and have the final pics up, and maybe a video update so ya'll can see the new awesomeness in motion

dude did you use cardstock and could u seend me the link to download your pep of recon?????

Yep, 110lb cardstock. You know, standard issue lol.

Sure, if you're an intermediate builder you should be able to do it no problem.

Lemme get permission from Belakor before I post it here, because PMs aren't working and all.

Finished 2.0

So, I finished 2.0 tonight.

It's quite a bit bigger than 1.0, and it slides on snugly. I had to cut out some of the bottom to fit on good.

Here's a pic of 2.0 and 1.0 completely pepped.

As soon as I have the stuff to start the next stage, I'll post more updates. Video update coming tomorrow.

good job i foundd the one by blecor and did you have to scale it bigger or smaller i need it to be 10.5 in tall and the rest caulculate on its own dew to change of hight but ya the defalt hight in mm is265mm so do i need to make smaler or what?

sorry for the double post but thanks so much it works now i gata glue to cardstock then buy more resin and bondo thankyou bro so much

How do you mean? like the pieces being cut off and not showing up on the page? Nope. Just leave it the way it is and print. It'll be all good, and depending on your pepping skill, should only take you several hours if not less to complete.

No problemo.

like the normal blecor 1 gets cut off when you print it says the pep format not same as printer and when you print it s either to ssmal or just right just off to left of the paper but yoours didnt do that so im good thanks hahahha

ohhh wel kep it on the dl but all i have left is from the visor and aroun to the back so bout 26 quick cut peicses then don then need some more bondo and and resin then its done!

Nice helmets, not a Noob so no need to post in the noob forum.

Thread moved to the appropriate forum section.

Lol thanks Spase! :) I wasn't sure what forum I should post in.

Welp, I'm resining the helms right now, I have to use a damn blow dryer because the temperature isn't optimum today.

When the stank goes away I'll snap some pics. I couldn't afford any bondo or even glass, so it looks like it'll be straight resin the whole way. There's gonna be a nice thick layer inside so I can sand off some high spots. Better than nothing and they'll be nice cheap props for the release.

Oh, on a hilarious note. Recon 2.0 killed my black ink cartridge.

Pics Below! Just of 2.0 resined, I got a thin outer layer and a nice thick inner layer (caused some damn warping but I'm gonna fix that with some un-warp heating and repositioning).

It's so cold (stupid california weather) so resining is a pain, I put it on top of the dryer or use my blow dryer to make the resin dry.

Oh, I'm helping make some ghetto weapons too. My little bro made a BR out of a nerf longshot (it's super ghetto). We're also taking a Recon CS-6 and turning it into a shotty (again, super ghetto). I'll have pics of those as soon as they're painted.

this is coming along good, i want to see out what this looks like with only resin. up here in Montana i'll get about 4 - 5 months to do everything and i only have about a week left to work...
this may add to it though with the blow dryer, thanks for the idea

Yeah, the blow dryer is kicking butt when it's cold. Just make sure you're wearing your respirator.

Again, I'm just making the helms, so lets hope I get them done :3

just had an image pop into my head...
Me -14 Fahrenheit outside in a snowbank tryin to harden some fiberglass with my moms blow dryer

i just want to see my neighbors expressions
