I'm Getting Tired Of This Fake Antivirus

I was logging onto myspace when out of nowhere a popup... well, it pops up, and it says that I have a horrible virus infection, and I looked at it, and it wasn't a popup from my computer's anti-virus, it was from the internet. I clicked on cancel and it redirected my internet to a page that imitated a "my computer" page. It had lines of text under every icon (including the disk drive! lol) saying in all caps "INFECTED! # VIRUSES REMAINING!!"

this is about the 10th time this fake antivirus scam popped up in the past year or so, and the first time I saw it I fell for it and I ended up getting infected for real

I got a new computer, and I thought I'd never see it again, but here it is again, and it's getting annoying.

If anyone else runs into an issue like this, just ignore it, and if you're still concerned just scan with what ever anti-virus you already have

Yes these scams are rampant and annoying. I find that a good way to avoid them is to stop surfing porn.

win. XD

on a side note, i've been annoyed by this maaaaaybe... 3 times all together, haven't been bothered with it lately. i know there are certain links that will connect you to this, though i can't say for sure which ones. i know there were some on the pepakura wiki page, i'm sure they've been cleaned out since all of the re-establishing crap that happened, and also be very careful of what you browse because alot of adult sites (like joked about) really do have a ton of virus' since the hackers know that they can spread the virus through pron faster than any other way XD

google the trojan/virus whatever and figure out how to remove it. It's usually a randomly generated file generated by some other program.

For future reference; whenever you get a pop-up like that, you should immediately go into task manager and kill the iexplorer process tree (assuming you're using IE). Using a different browser will prevent a lot of this. Alternatively, a good scanner should take care of anything that may install itself. I use Malwarebytes, but much like 'Which glue is best for pepakura', I'm sure there are close to as many opinions as users. :) Good luck and like Sporgo said, stopping the porn surfing should alleviate your problem. Although it may also happen if you are P2P'ing or torrenting a lot of executables, ISO's, WMA's, or WMV's....

so here's the deal your infected with a virus and you have no idea what to do well here is a little known secret to non computer literate people and those who are literate and just dont know much about removing virus's.

there are three free programs out there that will solve pretty much all your prroblems

I will list them as they should be used

first step download avg 8.7 antivirus free version

second step download malwarebytes anti malware program also free

third step download spybot s&d also free

remove any and all symantic or any other antivirus programs. and install and update the three programs.

do a disk clean up using either ccleaner or windows disk cleanup and restart. Now you will want to run avg to scan for virus's I know people always say I have norton or mcafee but both are garbage. use avg it is free and it is better.

after avg is run it will tell you what virus's and trojans were found.

go to your history tab and empty the virus vault..

next run malwarebytes and it will find every virus's and malware avg did not remove selected items and run spybot run the immunization and then scan for problems.

in the long long time I have been working with computers I have found these to be the most effective. and they are free. there are a lot of virus's running around and these programs can handle most of them no proble except for personal antivirus 2009 if you have that you need to reformat your out of luck because it somhow manages to wipe out your ntdlr.dll files when you remove it.
