It's a culture thing. To many Americans the idea of eating insects seems to be inherently gross and disgusting. However, in a lot of places "south of the border" into Central and South America, and in Asia, eating insects is completely common place and does not phase anyone.

OH i never though of it as a culture thing now I see whit they were first made.

I have a tequilla worm (meal worm) sucker. I decided to never eat it and save it since I thought it was pretty neat looking. I never saw something like it before, so I decided to just save it. And even if you did eat it, it's not going to hurt you. There are bugs and such that are actually better for you to eat than some foods! Worms carry HIGH amounts of protein.
