Contagion: Outbreak told me how to do it, here's his explanation. For basic wiring of a comm system (external speaker) contained in a helmet we generally get the generic Radio Shack voice amp (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062620) and remove the case. We then remove the large speaker from inside it (but if you have more space in your helmet you may not need to do this) and replace it with two in serier 8 ohm speakers (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062406). I have rigged a helmet with two amplifiers before, but you really only need one. You then need a place to mount the amplifier and speakers. To complete it you need a powered microphone (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102927) to speak into. The trick is eliminating feedback, which really isn't too difficult if you set up your helmet right

hope this helps

Thanks man! That helps me out a ton! I'm going to have to attempt this on my MK IV build. A place to put the speakers would be in the top of the shoulder pieces of the chest piece me thinks. Or someplace in the helmet if you want it to be self contained i guess! But thanks for the information man! Helps a ton. You think there is anyway to incorporate a receiving end into this? Such as an amplifier to hear things outside the helmet? One thing I noticed is the fact that sounds become muffled in my helmet. So maybe this could help? Just putting it out there! Thanks again for the info!!

i could be wrong, but i guess i always thought that the armor used buckles like that up there from what ive seen. so that way in emergencies the spartan could quick take their own armor off. is that not where a buckle is??? or is a totally different system? or does no one know?? input please

i though they used those little indents to attatch the other chest peices, like CQB and EOD.

Post con report! Thursday night we got most of the armor painted and worked some on the strapping but got distracted a lot. Friday morning Kai came over and we tried our best to crank it out and get there by 3:30. we ended up running out of bolts and a few other things so we had to make a Menards run. Kai and Ian wore the helmets into Menards. We then went back and loaded up all our stuff and Headed over to Holiday Inn. We got there at like 9…not quite when we wanted but it goes all night so we figured we’d be fine. We finally got our badges figured out and found the 405[sup]th[/sup], 501[sup]st [/sup]changing room. About the time Myndi called and said she was done so we went back and ate dinner with her. We decided to just go home at that point and finish up a few things and get some sleep. Instead we played halo for an hour and surfed youtube. Saturday morning we headed back and started suiting up. It took awhile to get us both going but we did it. We then learned that you get the hottest in the armor when you put it on… not a great way to start. We were instantly swarmed for photos and hugs once we left the room. We made a loop around the building then headed back to strip down. My right shoulder had totally cramped up and I could barely move it and we had a few other adjustments to make. After getting lunch we hung out with Loess and his fiancée for a while and talked armor. I got to mess with his LeeKegan BR and Smick6 Spiker XD they were great! When then suited up for the cosplay contest. While waiting for the contest to start I had a strap break so we fixed that. At the end of the contest the 501[sup]st[/sup] came out and we fought them off. Then the artoos chased us of stage. While waiting for round two my torso buckle broke so I couldn’t go up for round 2. After ducktaping it we continued on to the 405[sup]th[/sup] panel. We were going to use my torso speakers with the laptop for our video. Half way through the “magical blue smoke” started coming outta my armor and we had to kill the power to it. So we grabbed a 9v and kept going. Ian got tackled twice and broke a few pieces. So that night we packed up the armor for the week.
